I’m frustrated

EWI USB doesn't show up as VSTi/AU under Cubase 7.5/Logic

Hi, I've been having a problem with EWI USB under OSX Mavericks.

I install the EWI USB software from the supplied disk, then 1.006 update, but EWI USB doesn't show up neither in Cubase 7.5, nor in Logic 9, nor in Logic X. And this combination of EWI USB software and OSX version worked fine for my previous installation... Any ideas how to solve this?

  • Hello Alexander,

Thanks for posting. I'd be happy to help!

I think we might be seeing a 32bit / 64bit discrepancy. For Mac, the VST and AU plugins are just 32bit.

Logic X is 64-bit only. Logic 9 is both, but needs to be set for one or the other. Cubase 7 I know does both, but I don't recall exactly how to configure that.

Let's test with Logic 9. Right click on the Logic 9 icon in your Applications folder and select Get Info. Check the box for "open in 32-bit mode" if it isn't already. Re-open and see if it scans.

Another possibility is the installer is not working properly, so also check that the Aria plugin exists in the Mac plugin folder:

    Macintosh HD>Library>Audio>Plug-ins>Components

Let me know how it goes!

  • Thanks for answer, I don't really care for Logic 9 nowadays, to tell the truth, so I've tried to run Cubase 7.5 in 32bit and the plugin became visible in the list of VSTi plugins. I tried to load it, plugin's interface appeared along with repeating loud buzzing sound. I selected some woodwind preset and Cubase 7.5 crashed...

Good news is that in search for a way to use EWI USB for controlling volume envelopes of orchestral instruments (instead of EWI USB VST) I've found a nice free application called Akai EWI USB Control, works great!
