HELP! ALL DATA LOST ON MPC LIVE (FOLDERS; PROJECTS; FACTORY CONTENT;...)

I don't know how this is possible:

yesterday evening I programmed a simple beat and shut down the MPC afterwards.

Today I start up my MPC LIVE (2.0.5), but now there's NOTHING left on my internal drive!!

All folders and projects I've made are lost! Even the factory content disappeared!!

There's nothing left that I can load into a new project, no drums, no instruments, no samples,...

What's wrong and please tell me this is something that can be fixed, otherwise I lost my whole live set and other projects...

I really need to know how this is possible. If it seems to be something random / unexpected bug / error, that means I can't rely on this 'LIVE' MPC Live at all... Damn I'm almost gonna regret this purchase...

THANKS for the help!!

Hope Akai will answer this time and won't wait for another 3 months...

  • is there a way to view the MPC LIVE's drive info / data when connected to a computer?

Maybe there is something corrupt on that drive? But I wouldn't know how that would be possible, it's a static flash drive...

  • Just found out on fora / youtube that there are many other users that have experienced this internal drive failure as well...

Damn, If I knew that even internal memory / flash drive of a hardware musical instrument, intended for live (= LIVE !!!) use, could fail, I would have made backups more frequently and have a 'PLAN B' when taking that piece of gear on the stage with our band.

This is really unbelievable. After using it just a couple of months, it's already in need for repair.

AKAI has my money already, so they won't probably care a lot.

I'll hear about a solution from them somewhere 3 months after posting this, I guess.

Other option = taking it back to the shop, hope they will give me another one so I can start thinking about the quickest solutions; reprogramming stuff; etc;...

From now on, every time I go on stage with the LIVE will feel like even a bigger adventure than before, for sure! Thanks for that, AKAI!

  • Hey loekazz,

I'm sorry to hear that you had trouble with your MPC hardware. Given what you've described, it does sound like your hardware requires servicing.

We do want to help you with this and I have gotten in touch with you outside of the forum so we can get that done. Please look out for my contact and we will help you with your MPC!

  • At least they reacted fast this time.
They say it happened to other customers as well...

Looks like I'll need to go to the shop for a replacement unit.

That means my work on it is gone, and I have to do things over again. Some things surely can't be replicated or redone. Maybe I should send the bill for the loss of data & hours to AKAI?

Please AKAI LIVE users, don't save important stuff on the internal memory anymore, or at least ALWAYS back it up.

Don't rely on the MPC LIVE internal memory, especially if you got your live set on it and need to do concerts with it!! Maybe don't rely on this machine at all, who knows what will be the next surprise?

I'm 'glad' this didn't happen just before a gig, or in a week full of gigs. Hope I get a replacement soon so I can start rebuilding things for the next gig next week.

Great experience indeed, very inspirational and satisfying!
