Getting Started with MPK mini mkII Hardware and Content

I don't understand I downloaded everything and Nothing is still working! Been working on this for two days! About ready to return it!!!!! I watched the videos and figured they would be a great help. They were but when I applied the same methods nothing is working. Hybrid is somewhere on my computer like 3 times because its so darn difficult to locate where it downloads to, and when I find it there is nothing in the file. Some Birthday gift this is...Not Happy

  • Hey Vincent,

    Thanks for posting!

Sorry you're having trouble setting up your controller. I'll be happy to help you!

Let's start from the beginning. You mentioned that you have an MPK mini - is this the original MPK mini or the MPK mini mkII? The mkII has a red thumbstick in the top left corner of the controller. Does your controller have this feature? The original MPK does not come with bundled software so going forward we will use the MPK mini mkII.

You mentioned that you have watched videos but I'm not sure what you have seen so far. The following knowledge base article outlines the steps necessary to set up the controller with the included software:

Akai Pro MPK mini mkII - How to Obtain, Download, Install and Setup the Included Software

The video shows the installation for the included plugins as well. The default install locations are:

    Hybrid 3
    32-bit: Program Files (x86) > Steinberg > vstplugins
    64-bit: Program Files > Steinberg > vstplugins

    Wobble
    32-bit and 64-bit: Program Files (x86) > VSTPlugins

I understand that you're using this with FL Studio so you probably want to get the controller and plugins set up there too. The following articles by Image-Line (the developer of FL) will help you set up a MIDI controller and set a plugin directory:

Adding a MIDI controller to FL Studio

    Installing plugins to FL Studio

I hope this helps you! Please let me know if you have any questions.

  • Ok I have Hybrid Thank You for the assistance, but I still have a problem with the MPC program. I though this came with beats and other stuff. I can't find it. Oh and this one does have the Red Control Stick on the top left hand corner. I still can't figure out how to record with this thing either. It feels I am in way over head when I just wanted to some fun music. Although I will stick with it.

  • Definitely stick with it! Once you get comfortable with the hardware and the workflow you'll be well on your way to making some music!

Drum content is included with this MPK controller and can be found in your account:

Once you've downloaded and installed these drum expansions you can access them in MPC Essentials by selecting the 'X' in the bottom left corner (this will give you the expansions menu) and choosing your content from there. I have highlighted these portions of the menu in the picture below:

    I hope this helps you!
