Hide folders from file browser based on hidden attributes set on PC/Mac

It would be great if files/folders that have the "hidden" attribute set do not show up in the file browser of the Force and MPC-X so that the name lists can be shorter. I put all my related files on the internal SSDs that I install, like the manuals, firmware, MPC SW, etc. There are also files like "$RECYCLE.BIN" and "System Volume Information" that I would prefer not be there. An option in Preferences-> General to Hide/Show hidden files would be helpful to de-clutter the file lists.

Thanks!

Those files don't have any hidden attribute. The OS itself says "If I see a file with a $ in front, its a system folder that should be hidden". Akai has nothing to do with is.

The MacOS is Unix/BSD at its core, Unix has ALWAYS had the . make a folder invisible. I bet you anything those don't show up on the MPC because the MPC is also a Unix/Linux based box. Windows used a $ for whatever reason. Blame Microsoft, not Akai. Those same folders show up on a Mac or a Unix system anytime you look at a Windows formatted drive just like all those hidden . folders show up on a PC when you look at a Mac or Unix/Linux formatted drive. Windows has an option to show/hide system files because it knows exactly what IS a system file and what's not this way.

The MPC would require a blanket 'Leave out any file with this....' attribute which would likely hide things that weren't meant to be hidden in the first place if you happened to name something that way. Actually ran into something like this converting a bunch of old Akai format sample cd's into the new MPC format a week or two ago. One of the discs has a bunch of programs in folders labeled Ambient.A, Ambient.B, Ambient.C, etc...

Well to a Mac (or any OS), .C is the extension for one of Pro Tools SD2 audio files. The OS itself sees the .C at the end and turns the whole folder, complete with patch files and wav files into what looks like an audio file heh. You have to right click it and select 'Show package contents' to look inside like a zip file, grab the stuff out and put it in a folder with a proper name.

The solution to part of my desire is to simple put a "." in front of my folder names to hide it from the MPC-X/Force browser - that works for me - thanks for the info on that. Still would be nice to get rid of the PC/Mac special files/folders though.

  • Yeah I still hope the browser gets a overhaul in general. Its functional as is, but it would be really cool if it used tags of some sort or had a search option at least. I have my sample libs pretty well organized but it also took me over a week just to put everything in some sort of easily searchable order hah. On top of splitting everything into categories in folders, I renamed my entire library and added my own little codes to the names so I know who the samples came from and where. Id love it if I could just type in like 'ZG' and have it pull up all my Zero-G samples or something like that.

  • Hey Chris,

    Thanks for posting!

I agree with you and Monotremata that a more advanced filing system for the MPC and Force Browser would be extremely helpful. I'll make sure to forward your comments to the development team for consideration in future updates!
