How can I identify the Firmware version on my Akai MPx8?

I just received an MPX8 second hand and would like to know if I need to upgrade the firmware to 1.0.01?

  • Hey Scott,

    Thanks for posting!

Download and extract the MPX8's firmware update folder from the MPX8's product page. Deposit the MPX8_UPD.DAT file onto the root directory of an SD card so the MPX can read it and follow the procedure in the firmware update guide document included in the folder. If your MPX prompts you to install the firmware, proceed with the update.

Some things to note before updating - disconnect any USB MIDI peripherals from your computer before performing the update. Your computer's mouse and keyboard are fine but disconnect any other USB MIDI controllers or interfaces while you update. Also be sure to disconnect any MIDI adapters you have connected to the MPX8 before updating.

Allow the MPX to update completely - it will show the update's progress as a percentage on the screen. Do not power off the MPX or your computer during the update and do not disconnect the MPX from your computer during the update.

When the firmware update finishes and the screen reads Complete, power off the MPX8 then power it back on and you will be running the latest version of the firmware.

    I hope that helps!

  • Hi Nick-

Thanks for the firmware update directions.

Is there a way to identify the current firmware version that is currently installed?
