How do you get rid of double trigger notes?

Hi, does anyone know how to get rid of the double trigger notes on either the MPD 218 0r 226? I'm having a difficult time finding the correct info. Thanks!

  • Hey dlp,

    Thanks for posting!

I've tested both the MPD218 and MPD226 to try and replicate double triggering but I was not able to. In my experience with pad controllers (not specific to just the MPD series), striking a pad and allowing your finger to rebound can produce an unintentional hit. This is similar to a drum stick rebounding against a drum head. Not necessarily saying this is what is happening in your instance, just something to be aware of when playing the device.

If you do suspect that your device is not outputting MIDI data correctly, it sounds like it may need to be serviced. Warranty and non-warranty claims are not handled here on the forum, but I can point you in the right direction! Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

    • Submit a Warranty or Service inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the Akai Pro Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu.

    or

    • For quicker support, call your nearest Support Office or International Distributor.

Make sure to reference or link this thread to help out the support team.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hey Nick, I tried both the 218 and 226 and they same thing occurred on both. I also tried several other pads from other companies and didn't have that problem. I even tried adjusting the Velocity and Pad Gain, etc..., and nothing helped.

There is an issue with these units as many people have described having the same problems with them. Unscrewing the screws on the bottom isn't very encouraging either. I took it back today. I remember having the original MPC back in the day. That unit was extremely well build.

The MPD, not so much. Thanks for getting back to me with your results though. I appreciate it.

I have just bought an MPD218 and am having this issue too. I haven't noticed double triggering when playing pads separately (i.e an alternating kick/snare pattern), but when i play polyphonically (i.e. hi hats pattern with kick/snare simultaneously) I'm getting the double triggering - which is recording in to my DAW.

The idea that this is my finger bouncing off the pad and landing again is nonsense, definitely not happening in my case.

    Anyone got a fix?

Not sure if it's even worth me getting a replacement at this stage, if this is just likely to happen again with the new unit.

Another fix I found for this (in Ableton Live) is to use the MIDI effect called "velocity", which lets you filter out hits below a certain velocity (which all the double-trigger notes seem to be).

  • this is still a problem with the MPD's and the Live / X...

please Akai instead of us finding ways to have a workaround in Ableton / Logic / ...

give us the possibility to filter the lowest velocity values the pads are sending out.

Sensitivity and threshold are not enough, it seems!

I still have double triggers with threshold 16 and sensitivity 2...
