How to reach the different modes of MPC essentials

Hey !
I bought an MPC essential recently and I can't figure out how to reach the mode through the keyboard's shortcuts.

I have a french keyboard and a MacBook Air 10.9.5 (so to press e.g. Cmd+6 I have to press Cmd+MAJ+6), but even in doing this combination the software won't change the mode it's on ...
Even more frustrating the combination is recognized by the software (the 'View' button on the top bar colors in blue = combination of keys recognized), but it doesn't change.

If you have any idea on how I could fix this, I would be pleased !

Additionally, I wanted to know if the combination (Cmd+6) works while using the Plug-In in Ableton Live?

Or, simply stated, is there any way to map the different modes to an external MIDI keyboard for example while running the Plug-In on Ableton?

Thank you for your answers !
Thomas

  • Hey Thomas,

    Thanks for posting!

Sorry you're having trouble with the software. It sounds like you are aware of the shortcut commands but just in case, the picture below will illustrate them:

Pressing Command (⌘) and one of the numerical keys will toggle different modes. This works in both standalone and as a plugin. Are you unable to toggle between different modes with keystroke commands?

  • Hey Nick,

    I wasn't expecting a response that fast, thanks a lot !

I have found the solution to change my keyboard into an English Keyboard and it works.
Still I guess there is a problem between the application MPC essentials and the French keyboard, because while I press the combination 'Command+Maj+Numerical Key' the 'View' button get colored in blue but does not change the modes.
So I guess that I'll learn the English Keyboard to be able to rename my tracks because I struggle a lot with the english keyboard.
Apart from that I'm happy to be able to change the modes without touching my mouse !
Do you know if there is anyway to map the change of Mode view to a midi button while using Ableton? Maybe with Max for Live ?

  • You can map the Element to Ableton but only when the plugin is set to MIDI Mode (the icon all the way to the right that looks like a 5-pin MIDI port). Outside of MIDI Mode, the Element will work normally with MPC Essentials.

Although you can MIDI map, it doesn't really make sense to flip back and forth between using MIDI Mode and the other modes of MPC Essentials because at that point you're already clicking inside the plugin so you will effectively be taking more steps than just clicking the mode you want to begin with.

I can see how mapping outside of MIDI Mode could be useful though so I will be happy to submit this as a feature request to the development team for you!

    Thank you for your feedback!
