How to setup MPC / Logic Pro X workflow

Does anyone know how to setup Logic Pro X as a sound module for the Akai MPC drum machine? I want to use the MPC as a sequencer and use Logic as the sound module.

  • Hello Mike,

Thanks for posting. Happy to help!

You would just need to get the MIDI output of the MPC1000 to the computer.

First, get a USB/MIDI interface. The M-Audio MIDISPORT Uno is an inexpensive one:

MIDI out of the MPC1000 to the MIDI in on the interface. Logic will recognize the USB/MIDI interface automatically and listen to whatever the MPC1000 is sending.

On the MPC1000, you would simply add a MIDI track. This track will send MIDI out to the Logic.

If need be, you can set which notes the pads are assigned to send out via MIDI, which will come in helpful when "lining up" the pads of the MPC with the sound you're using in Logic.

    On the MPC:

    1) Press the MODE button
    2) Press PAD9, MIDI/SYNC
    3) Go to the NOTE tab
    4) You'll see a grid of all the pad note values. Adjust here to line up with Logic and your software synth.

    Hope this helps!
