I can't get my Akai MPK249 to work with Garage Band

I recently got the Akai Mpk249 and can't get it to work with Garage Band. Every time I try a box comes up involving PACE and takes me to an ilock page that isn't found. I can't use my Audio/MIDI application to look for the controller, it just says loading........

I tried to install protools recently but uninstalled it and i believe it messed up my midi settings. how do i go about getting the Akai controller to talk to garage band? I know it involves this audio/MIDI application but I don't know how to resolve this. thanks.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for posting.

You will need to be able to reconfigure your Midi Studio in order for the MPK to work with Garageband. The software will use that to define all the midi i/o.

    Check this out:

Try this a few different ways. Try disconnecting everything and resetting, try only plugging in your MPK and resetting. If the MPK never shows up here or it never loads properly, you'll need to get that resolved with Apple support before you can use the MPK with this computer.

Once your MPK shows up properly, we can address the Pace problem. This is likely because of the Hybrid and Twist plugins that came with it and I'm guessing this is because they haven't been authorized.

Here's what you'll want to do:

    1) Find and open ilok license manager. This should be in your applications or programs folder. If not you can try searching for it.
    2) Log-in or create an account if you don't have one.
    3) Click on Licenses > Redeem Activation code
    4) Enter your software authorization code in the box that appears
    5) Follow the steps to activate and redeem the code
    6) Repeat for any additional software

Your authorization codes will be located on your account page after registering the MPK. Once you do this, it should resolve any pace inquiries. if not your problem lies much deeper.

If you are still having trouble, provide more information about your system: OS, other software/hardware, etc.

    Hope this helps!
