I’m frustrated, there should not be This Many Steps to something So Simple

I'm just trying to MAKE NOISE

How do I play the thing? As in, I push the keys or the pads and it actually makes sound type playing. idc about recording yet. I'm not there.
I have a windows OS laptop, the mpk mini, and am using pro tools first. I've heard I should get an instrument plugin but I should be able to play it using the software it came with or why did it come with software, and how many random things am I going to need to download and accounts will i need to create before I can make music? This is ridiculous.

  • Hey Fed tf Up,

    Thanks for posting!

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble. The MPK can be used with any software that accepts MIDI data, like Pro Tools First. Since the MPK only sneds MIDI data you will have to have a virtual instrument (plugin) loaded into your DAW.

If you're more interesting in just playing and not in production for the moment, then I suggest sticking with Pro Tools as the MPC Essentials setup is more involved.

We've created a guide that shows how to setup your device in Pro Tools and create an instrument track:

AKAI PRO MPK MINI MKII - COMPLETE SETUP IN PRO TOOLS FIRST

Down the line if you want to use MPC Essentials or just install the included plugins Hybrid and Wobble, take a look at this guide. It will walk you through the entire setup process:

AKAI PRO MPK MINI MKII - HOW TO OBTAIN, DOWNLOAD, INSTALL AND SETUP THE INCLUDED SOFTWARE

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
