I’m frustrated and confused

Installing MPC 2.2.1 deleted all my previous project files

I just bought the MPCX and registered it as well as downloaded the software version 2.2.1 onto my PC (win 7). I already had the MPC Studio with version 1.9.6 on my PC and had loads of project files on it. When installing 2.2.1 nowhere during the installing did it say it would 1) delete version 1.9.6 and 2) delete EVERYTHING associated with it.NOW ALL MY PROJECT FILES ARE GONE!!!

So it doesn't stop there. I then went to my laptop that still had the 1.9.6 version and started the program. A popup message said to register the program or it will go into DEMO mode. My software was already registered. Well i didn't want it to go into DEMO mode so I registered it again. Well guess what? ALL my 1.9.6 current project files on that computer were DELETED as well. wtf!!!

  • Hey Gordon,

    Thanks for posting!

The MPC Software installer has no effect on your project files and cannot delete your projects. You can uninstall and reinstall the MPC Software over and over and it would never touch your project directory.

By default, your projects are saved to the Documents > MPC directory on both Windows and Mac operating systems. This directory will contain your project files (.xpj) and their corresponding [ProjectData] folders. You must have both the project file and the [ProjectData] file to open a project, though you can use the resources and files inside the [ProjectData] folder to rebuild the project if necessary. Check this directory for these files.

Instead of using the MPC hardware's driver to unlock the software like in 1.x versions, the MPC 2 Software uses the iLok License Manager for authorization. When you purchased the MPC 2 Software, a 30-digit iLok code was provided. Redeem this code in the iLok software, assign the license to your computer, and you will be able to use the full version of the software.

If you have trouble authorizing the software, please get in touch with our technical support team directly. Software authorization claims are not handled here on the forum but I can point you in the right direction! Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

    • Submit a Software Authorization Assistance inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the Akai Pro Support page. Select Software Authorization Assistance from the drop down menu.

    or

    • For quicker support, call your nearest Support Office.

    Already submitted a claim.

Nick, I know every inch of where files are stored on PC's because I've installed and re-installed 1.9.6 several times. I know where the MPC folder is located. MPC 2.2.1 created a brand new MPC folder and replaced the original folder I had with all my 1.9.6 projects in it. (A NEW MPC FOLDER). Original MPC folder GONE!!! This was on my Desktop PC.

This is what I see in that MPC folder now:
    PLUGIN DATA
    PLUGIN PRESETS

That's it!! NO "PROJ", NO "PROG", NO "PROJECT_DATA" folders

In my previous post I stated that when i went to my LAPTOP (PC) to open my second copy of version 1.9.6 that I had a Popup message stated that I had to REGISTER or else it would go into DEMO mode. Again Nick, my 1.9.6 software was ALREADY REGISTERED!! This has nothing to do with the MPC 2 update. It wanted me to register the 1.9.6 version which was already registered. Again, the same thing happened after I registered 1.9.6. A NEW MPC FOLDER was created and my original MPC folder was GONE!!!

And there were no other folders inside that newly created MPC folder on my laptop.

    Has anyone else experience this?
