iPad audio into Force doesn't sound high quality....

Does anyone have insight into why sounds recorded from my iPad (tried via 1/8 AND lighting) into the force sound lower quality than from other sources?

I tried recording from both the ipad and computer directly via the same cables... Computer sounds good so I know the cable is fine... I'm looking to record some ipad apps, which sound amazing when plugging headphones in directly... however the ipad into the Force... not so.

I'm not sure if it's something with a sampling rate somewhere? Or what else could be causing this....

Assume you tried adjusting the input gain on the back of the force?

The iPad/iPhone DAC converters in the 1/8 are not the best grade, even lightning and USB-c adaptors are pretty basic, cost and power consumption tend to be a consideration.

Driving high quality studio headphones from either of these does not get good results, just a weak lifeless signal.

There are a number of solutions for this which I have all.

    Chord Mojo : https://chordelectronics.co.uk/produc...
    DAC and Headphone preamp.

RME Fireface UFX or Elektron Analog Heat: both are class compliant audio interfaces but I guess you can use any that are class compliant interface.

Once you run through a decent DAC then it sounds great.

The quality of soft synths on iPad are not the same, Synthmaster One sounds brillant but there a many that sound flat to me.

  • Hey Rob,

    Thanks for posting!

The headphone output of your iPad is a different impedance than line-level which the Force's inputs accept. For this reason, the sound quality will always be poor. John had a great recommendation to use a class-compliant audio interface to convert the digital signal to a line-level audio signal. This would produce a much cleaner signal.

Let us know if you have any questions!

    Thanks for your help, John!
