  • Hey Mike,

    Thanks for posting!

You can use those products together in Ableton Live. Just make sure you set them all up for MIDI input in Live's MIDI Preferences menu. Make sure that you select the controller in the Control Surfaces menu for any APC controller you're using so the remote control script is enabled and the devices work properly in Live. You don't really need to select a control surface option for the MIDImix unless you want to use the premapped settings in Live. Since you've got the APC40 mkII already, it will handle the default volume faders, etc. In this instance, I would recommend using Live's MIDI mapping function to assign the MIDImix to other parameters you'll use often for fast access.

I think for now you probably have enough hardware to get by especially if you're just starting out. You can control more in terms of clip launching than the hardware shows by using the cursor buttons with the APC40. If you're using Live Lite, you will have a limited number of instruments that can be added to a Live Set so another controller probably wouldn't be of much use since the APC40 can already handle the instruments that will be available. If you ever upgrade the software to a more robust version like Standard or Suite and you're making massive sets with the intention of lots of clip launching then adding another controller might be the right option.

    I hope that's helpful!

The information given so far is definitely a good start an I am very appreciated for your time in explaining what you did
