Kontakt/Komplete not present at all in VIP

Hi Gang,

Has anybody experienced the issue of VIP not loading, or recognising Komplete at all?
I have managed to get everything working as it should except that none of my NI stuff is listed in the Plugin Manager section of VIP.

Does VIP have to be pointed to the Native Instruments Komplete install location to load it?
From what I am reading it should just pick up Komplete from the VST .dll's.
Is that right?

Please note, this question is not asking how to load individual instruments and presets, this is about VIP not recognising that my NI stuff exists on the system at all.
Am I missing something obvious, or is this not normal?

  • Hi Steve,

    Thanks for posting again!

I don’t remember where you mentioned keeping your VST plugins, but please make sure that the VIP plugin manager is pointed to that location and you re-scan the library. I’m not sure where the Kontakt/Komplete plugins will install by default. You can ‘Scan New’ by just clicking SCAN or re-scan the plugin folders entirely by holding CTRL and clicking SCAN.

Also, double-check that the plugin folder you are scanning is the same bit-version as VIP (i.e. 64-bit or 32-bit).

Other than that, there’s not any reason why VIP would totally ignore the plugins. It would at least throw up an error if there was a problem scanning them. You could try reinstalling Kontakt or at least verifying the location is correct.

Let me know how this goes!

  • Thanks Corey,

Yeah, VIP does not pull the 64 bit .dll's from the default NI VST folder. Has to be done manually. Would have expected there to be something in the manual about this, but there's not. Couldn't find any info about in from hours of internet searching either. Why is this not simply mentioned in AKAI's Native Instruments/VIP mapping video? Maybe it is and I still missed it after watching it 4 times.

It's interesting because every other program seemingly adds that location to it's auto VST plugin search.
Anyway, I had to point VIP to it using the second plugin folder option. (or I could have copied the .dll's)

So, working now, but other issues are continuing to pop up which is causing me workflow frustration (VIP randomly stops working in protools, Eighty Eight VI freezes it's controller movements). It's really becoming a game of "whack the mole" from where I'm sitting now. I love the controller, but if at some point soon this continual cycle of workflow stoppers doesn't smooth out, I can see myself having to seriously re-evaluate whether my time will allow me to continue troubleshooting this package.

    Cheers, Steve

  • Hi Steve,

Yes, if you don't keep all your VST plugin files in a single location, you'll need to scan separate folders to find them or reinstall them to a single place. I'm realizing now that you're coming from Pro Tools which uses the proprietary AAX and RTAS which will always install to the same location, but VST plugin developers like to put their plugins in all sorts of different places.

But, I'm glad you were able to figure that out!

So when VIP "stops working in Pro Tools" do you get an error message? Can you explain that further?

  • Thanks Corey,

Nope, no error msg's at all. VIP just stops outputting sound. And it's seemingly random.
It happens more in PT but did happen once in Studio One also. Thought it may have been more related to the Eighty Eight VI, bit if memory serves it also happened with Xpand and Massive.

As I posted in another reply to someone recently (can't remember who now), there's also more issues like 3 controller allocations in the Eighty Eight that sometimes won't move (Bank A #2, 3, 4).
AND if I move any control on the Eighty Eight instrument of the VIP instance, and then close the view window, it doesn't remember the changes I just made and reverts back to the last saved settings. And that happens every time I view the VIP plugin instance and close it. But it doesn't do it if I open the plugin in it's native plain vanilla version without using VIP.

I am now in the process of transitioning to a brand new Audio tower PC, so I don't have the time to give this much testing attention at all.
Which is why I am disappointed that everything didn't just "work" straight out of the box.
(1 week later already and I still haven't received the power supply from our local distributor to test whether it will alleviate my jumping controller problem!)
