  • Weird - it seems it only crashes my studio template - just deleted all the channels and loaded an instance into fresh project with one midi channel and no crash. Would like to work out how to use with studio template if any ideas - will try deleting all instances of vip from it and readding

  • Hi,

    Thanks for posting.

If this only started after updating to 9.5, than I would recommend to contact Ableton for more info, but here's what I would look into:

Since it only happens with that template, maybe there's something in your template that's not syncing well with the new features?

Can you create a new 9.5 version of the template and try out VIP with that?

This happens with only one VIP instance or several?

Will this happen with any other plugins?

Let me know if you have more questions and I can see if I have anything else for you to try!

  • I’m frustrated
So I seem to be having a similar issue. VIP worked perfectly with my Ableton template on the older version of VIP, but since updating I get a crash every time I try to add VIP to my template. However, if I delete the tracks from it and just add VIP I don't seem to have any issues...then as soon as I start adding tracks to the session and go to either open the UI for an existing instance of VIP, or open VIP on a new track, it crashes.

I've tried to narrow it down to a particular rack or instrument thats causing it but there is no consistency...it could be after adding an instrument, sampler, drum rack, etc and it suddenly doesn't like it anymore and it crashes.

I'm using Ableton 9.5 with the newest version of OS X. I've tried resaving a new template, creating new projects and starting from scratch, slowly adding my racks back in, but keep running into the same issues after loading in a few tracks.

I love the concept of VIP and the Advance keyboard, but have been dealing with issues since the very beginning. I reformatted my mac in hopes of VIP working properly, and it actually did when I loaded the original version of VIP so I though all was well...then as soon as I received the update for VIP I'm back in the same boat...

  • I was having the same problem with VIP crashing Ableton 9,5 on my windows 7 computer with 4gb RAM and a core 2 duo. Was running VIP 32 bit in 32 bit ableton. I tried running the same setup on my surface pro 2 with an i5 and 4gb ram and it worked fine on that computer. Finally I stumbled onto a solution to get it running on the first computer that was having the problems. Unplug the keyboard from the USB, open VIP in Ableton and then plug the keyboard back in after you've made sure it's working inside Ableton. For some reason this solves the problem.

  • I'm having the same issue. Constant crashes in ableton 9.5 (osx 10.9.5). I have a feeling JBridge is crashing it.. Maybe (because JBridge keeps crashing in stand alone VIP). But even my 64 bit plugins are crashing when I load them in VIP. Everything is also crashing in 32 bit Ableton. No luck with the software but I still like the keyboard a lot (especially how the knobs auto map to whatever device rack you have selected). As stated above, I love the concept of the VIP software but it's been nothing but problems for me so far.

      Hi,

JBrdge is not supported for use with VIP in any way. Only run VIP in the same bit version as your plugins and DAW. If you continue to have trouble with this, I'd have to recommend uninstalling JBridge.

At what point does the software crash? With which plugins?

I'd recommend to be on the latest version of Ableton. Customers have mentioned that 9.6 has proven more stable than 9.5.

      I hope this helps!
    • Hi thanks for the quick reply. I am actually running live 9.6, sorry forgot that's the newest version. Might just uninstall JBridge, been having tons of issues with it anyway and the dev never updates or replies. All of my plugins are crashing ableton as soon as I try to load a synth patch as a vip vst or au. I'll follow up on this when I uninstall JBridge but might not have time for about 2 weeks. Most of my my sounds have been carefully organized into ableton device racks over the past 7 years. It would be awesome if I could drop device racks in vip but I can still see plenty of other uses for it (like combining different synth patches). Thanks again.
