I’m frustrated

Internal Midi ports don't work when running as vst inside DAW after being set in preferences

Constantly trying to find the best way to use this machine and ive been playing round with the VST / AU. Also figured that as the machine is so unstable for me in controller mode if it crashes which it does regularly then I should have an autosave / rescue option...great and also there's a chance that the project won't crash just the vst.

Problem is this if I set my midi outs in the prefs to the mpcs ports (which are selectable) and click ok they revert back to none and are thus unusable as soon as I hit play again (obviously I have pressed stop to make these changes as it doesn't work that way)

It's so close to being the thing that brings years of work together for me this machine but every time I try something else there's always some sort of issue.

This has been tested in ableton and logic.

Suffice to say this will be my only akai machine.

  • Hey Ross,

    Thanks for posting!

Sorry you're having some trouble with that! While I do not have any additional information regarding MIDI port assignment right now, the development team is aware of this behavior. If I receive any new information regarding MIDI port assignments reverting, I will update the community.

There is an auto save function available in MPC's Preferences > Project Load/Save menu that you can enable:

Can you tell me more about the crashes you experience?

What operating system are you running on your computer? What version of MPC are you using?

Is there any consistency to that behavior? Is a crash more likely with a specific plugin or a densely populated project?

    Let me know!

  • Hi sorry for delayed response. The crashes occur often when processing audio samples in controller mode particularly if they are being pitched heavily. I've had to try and work in other ways for now to keep productive as this has been an issue mostly in playback in my live set. The project is reasonably dense at around 300 meg.

The midi ports issue has been a massive issue in all honesty. There's no real sense to it and it happens often in controller mode. My only fear has always been if there is a problem with my unit but I've encountered very few problems in standalone mode so I assume it's software based.

The issue with midi ports not working when running as a plugin is a shame. This was only discovered as I tried to work with the machine in another way to get away from using the mpc software due to the problems.

I can't really explain more than that as unfortunately I haven't been using the machine of late as much which is a shame. I'm biding my time to see if certain issues do get resolved and certain key and necessary features such as being able to select midi channel on the midi ins and streaming from disk happen before deciding whether to stick with it or not.

Great machine just feel a little unlucky with how certain things are working within it. Thanks for your reply. I have got a lot out of this machine am just struggling to tick boxes for what I need out of it is all.
