MIDI record

Hello! I have a MPC X and I want to record a performance with MIDI into the X in standalone. I have ASR-10 to trigger internal sounds no prob, but when I try to record MIDI, overdub "erases" part of the seq! HELP PLEASE! I have many MIDI instruments I want to rec into the X for more full sound, expression in tracks. Thanks for any and all help

  • Hey Ted,

    Thanks for posting!

It sounds like you are using the Record function instead of the Overdub function. Selecting Record on the MPC will cause the playhead to erase all MIDI events as it passes over them and record any new MIDI events you are entering with your controller. The purpose of Overdub is to add MIDI events into a preexisting sequence so if you want to add more data to a sequence you've already recorded, be sure to press Overdub before recording new MIDI data into MPC's sequencer!

Let me know if you have any questions!

  • hello! thanks for replying. so when I have a sequence, I press REC+PLAY to record my performance. I've set it to loop after 8 bars. when it auto-loops, it automatically switches from REC to OVERDUB. now when it loops and is in OVERDUB, why is it scrubbing previous MIDI events?
