Midi sequence and track solutions

Greetings Akai Forum,

I have an MPC X. Can you please explain how to use multiple midi instruments on multiple tracks? For instance, when I record a midi instrument trumpet on sequence 1, track 1 and then I go to track 2 to record a bass instrument, I get the trumpet sound again. I tried changing midi channels and programs but I continued to get negative results. Any suggestions. Thank you.

  • each track has a "program" which is the sound itself.

if two tracks have the same program then they are pointing to the same sound.

bit strange at first get used to but it has its uses like when splitting kicks and high hats onto different track which are the same kit, without filling memory with duplicate samples.

  • Hey AGBAK,

    Thanks for posting!

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble. While the MPC X can send MIDI out on different channels it will always receive on the Omnichannel (all ports 1-16). This means that incoming MIDI data will be sent to whatever your currently selected track is. If you want to change tracks, open the Main view on the MPC and press the Track field. Use the data dial to scroll to select a different track.

Let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks for your help, John!
