modwheel and pitchwheel are not assignable in VIP learn mode?

Trying to figure out how to assign and remove assignments for pitchwheel and modwheel.

Using kontakt for example, I have the pitchwheel that is assigned to a group of parameters, so when I push it up or down, multiple parameters are changed. For the modwheel it is assigned to a specific parameter, that I would like to remove.

I can't find a way in VIP to remove existing assignments for the pitchwheel and modwheel.

I know that I can change the midi channel on the keyboard, but it is not what I want to do. All controls seems to have a property window, so I can manually remove its assignment by selecting "none", but this is not possible for the mod wheel and pitch wheel.

Is this a limitation of the program? Because if I use the midi CC learn function, it actually assign controls and properties to the modwheel and pitchwheel, but then I have 2 controls moving, because I cannot un-assign neither of the wheels.

  • Hey lumberjack,

    Thanks for posting!

I took a look into this for you. The Mod Wheel is re-assignable via the Learn MIDI CC function. What I found was that if the preset has its own parameters mapped to the Mod Wheel, they could not be removed or overwritten. I attempted this in multiple VSTs and did not find a way to remove the preexisting MIDI CC assignments. I could, however, send additional functions to be executed by the Mod Wheel.

If the plugin preset did not have a unique assignment to the Mod and was only responding to a general MIDI CC 01 modulation command, then any MIDI CC assignment made thereafter would overwrite the MIDI CC 01 message.

This is peculiar behavior and will warrant a little more investigation. I will mention your feedback to the team for further consideration.

Let me know if you have any questions!

At the moment I am stuck with some VST, since they assign both mod wheel and pitch wheel to specific functionalities; that can't be changed. No big deal, will keep an eye on it to the eventual VIP update
