More comprehensive User Guide available?

Hi there,

I am wondering if there is a comprehensive manual available for the MPK249.

The existing User Guide makes virtually no mention of the MPK-to-computer interface: e.g. that it appears as 4 USB input devices or what the function of each USB device is.

The MPK also presents itself as 4 output devices from the computer's perspective, but there is no indication of what happens when it receives MIDI messages from the computer.

Also, I was wondering how many presets are available. It seems that this is not explicitly stated anywhere. Of course one can figure this out by playing with the MPK or get it implicitly from the SYSEX description, but it shows that the existing User Guide is a bit lacking in details.

And, by the way, the "B" in MSB and LSB stands for BYTE not BIT. This error is repeated many times in the User Guide.

Thanks.

  • Hi Rick,

    Thanks for posting!

The MPK 2 series will have 4 virtual ports:

    - Ports 1 and 2 are for USB. These will show up as USB A and USB B on your keyboard That's two separate ports available to set parameters to on your keyboard to send via USB to your computer.

    - The second two ports are for the Midi In/Out ports on the keyboard. Midi devices plugged into the midi port on your MPK will send over these 2 virtual ports. You will not need these if you don't use any external midi devices

There is not a lot of reason to use the output ports 1 and 2 to send messages back to the board. Some users like to send note data back to the pads to make them light up, but otherwise these ports won't really be necessary. Obviously, ports 3 and 4 are to access other external midi devices attached to the MPK.

The keyboards should all have 30 presets in total, 5 of which are generic presets that are good spots to save user configurations, but any of them can be overwritten and re-saved with your own preferences.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi Corey,

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

Regarding the second two virtual ports (for external devices) that you refer to:
Since there is only one MIDI DIN input port and one MIDI DIN ouput port, it seems that only one virtual input/output port would be required to service those ports. So I don't understand how the two virtual ports are associated the external MIDI.
    Could you clarify this please.

    Thanks
