  • Hey Tim,

    Thanks for posting!

The MPC 2.0 software is currently in a beta state and is available for MPC X, MPC Live, and MPC Touch users. I do not have a specific release date for the official version of the MPC 2.0 software.

The following knowledge base articles will provide more details regarding the software and upgrading your software version if you are using other models of MPC like the MPC Renaissance, Studio, and Element.

Akai Pro - Upgrade Path for MPC 2.0

Akai Pro MPC X and MPC 2.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Akai Pro MPC Live and MPC 2.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

I hope this helps you! Let me know if you have any questions.

How hard is it for you'll to say a date and time and not point people to an article that does not answer the question that was asked. This only answers what will happen, it does not say when. When is the question that all of us that bought a studio black or ren recently in anticipation of 2.0 wants to know while those with your newer more expensive models are enjoying 2.0 as we speak. I know it won't help me by selling my studio because you have already got the sale credit from me, but what I can do is not buy again and definitely not recommend to people I know and to members of the numerous beat maker groups I'm a part of. This is unacceptable as a company. Not telling customers nothing at all that answers a simple question.
    • that is absolutely right, i am with you on that. i been with aka since mpc 2000. i have a reniassance and its not fair to other beat makers like myself of not get that upgrade and the new system has it. dont get me wrong that system is hpyed up. but the reniassance and studio is only a few years old its not like its over 10 yrs old or something like the old drum machines. this is very unprofessional and not right for other akai beat makers who beleive in the product. very wrong.
    • they treat us like stray cats and hope we will go away..
IMO the mpc 2.0 will stay beta for a few more years, no progress, no updates. im stating this due to it took 1,5 (!) years when they first revealed 2.0 at NAMM. Its sad since i love the work flow, but thats about it...

  • By the time MPC 2.0 drops the hardware will be ancient. A year is a very long time in tech.

    • If that's true, then why can't Studio users and Ren users have their own Betas? What's so hard about that? Why aren't we aloud to get familiarized as well besides some videos to make us drool like salivating dogs begging for water and crumbs!
    • I don't even care about money! I have two Studios, two Advance 61's, I mean, that's the rig that's working for me right now with some other things of course, but Akai wise this is what I'm doing. So for them to not allow us to have a useable interface now must mean that they are having great difficulty developing one for us and that this project MAY soon be ABANDONED! Then what I ask you? Then what?

This is just ridiculous and one hell of way to boost sales of units that they obviously have no intentions of continuing to support. Advertise that it will be for the studio and Ren users yet we still don't have it after the newer units have been using it for 3 months or so. And when you ask a question you get a useless response of being directed to a faq. I have been holding off on buying a dedicated daw for audio because I have been waiting like a fool for this. If I have to spend 300-400 for a Daw guess where it's coming from? You guessed it, me selling this pretty much discontinued unit and if I do go back with a drum machine it will be the MASCHINE!

  • Hey everybody,

I have directed users in this post to the FAQs because they contain useful information regarding updating your software if you are working with a Studio, Renaissance, or Element. I have not given a release date because I don't have that information. I know you want to use the latest build of the software - the developers want that for you too! MPC 2.0 is in development and will be released when it is tested and complete.

So everything clear, the MPC 2.0 software has not yet been released for any MPC model - it is still in a beta state for the MPCs that have touch displays. It is in development for the MPC Studio as well as the other MPC controllers - these controllers have not been forgotten. I'm an MPC Studio user myself and I am also looking forward to the full release of the 2.0 software!

    • In all honesty, I've been saying for months that I personally don't think Akai WANTED to make another standalone machine. Their last 2 standalone machines (the 4000 & 5000) though very POWERFUL machines, were commercial failures.

The reason being is that even back then, computer technology had surpassed what was available in standalone machines. What many fail to realize is that a standalone machine is simply a VERY PRIMITIVE computer, designed SOLELY for the purpose of music production, just as a video game system is a VERY PRIMITIVE computer designed SOLELY to play video games (well, not so much THESE days).

Akai realized that computer tech was beginning to dominate the music production market, with all the various DAWs and midi controllers available, which is why after the MPC 5000 it decided to hop on tje bandwagon with the MPC controller series.

Problem is, a relatively few stubborn diehard MPC users refused to accept that computer tech was the direction the industry was going and demanded a new standalone machine. Apparently Akai felt there was sufficient demand to proceed with development of new standalone units.

I think NOW Akai has realized that the demand for new standalone units is relatively SMALL, nut has already committed so much time, energy & money into the MPC Live and X that they at least want to recoup a respectable amount of that money.

I think this is why Akai is delaying the availability of the new software for MPC controller owners. I don't think very many would upgrade to one of the mew standalone machines if/when they realize that they can do EVERYTHING the new machines can do PRODUCTION wise with just the new software.

In a nutshell, Akai wants to minimize their losses, by taking steps to maximize sales of the new hardware. Which is why I say I wouldn't ne surprised if the software isn't made available to MPC controller owners until sometime next year, after Akai has sold a desirable number of the new units.
    • I finally stopped watching all the videos on 2.0 I think I'm going to just give up on this one thank you akai

    • Don't know if you've noticed, but MANY top professional producers who USED to be long time MPC users have ALREADY jumped ship to Maschine. Meanwhile InMusic Brands which owns Akai is focused on spitting out a bunch of midi controllers in addition to the MPC units in order to maximize sales (due to hardware confusion among newbies).

I noticed that Akai recently let Scott Storch try out the MPC X for their latest "standalone challenge". At the end of the video he expresses that he's impressed with the machine and can't wait to get one, but I wonder if he was actually PAID to do the video and basically endorse the product.

Not as many producers are on the MPC bandwagon this time around as they were back in 2012 when the MPC controllers were released.
    • I'm willing to give it a shot. It's packed with features that to me blow the mpc out of the water...oh wait I can't tell because I haven't used 2.0 yet

  • So the new Maschine will be out next month so time to see if I can at least get half of my 399 back from this studio black and move on from these people and try something new

  • MPC 2.0 will probably NOT be released for Ren & Studio owners in 2017. More likely in Spring 2018. If ever.

  • I'm shocked as well. I mean, I'm no programmer, but is it REALLY that difficult to get the LCD screens of the Ren & Studio compatible with the new software? I was told by a rep that was the hold up, making sure the software works with the LCD screens. Seems like it should be a relatively simple task. At this point, I TRULY do NOT expect the software to be released for Ren & Studio owners in 2017. I'd be VERY surprised if it is.

    • It is still a work in progress I must attest. It is a move in the right direction.I have tried the MPC Studio with the MPC beta most basic feature work. it the added new feature to the MPC x/live that need to be tweak into the firmware for instance clip mode for the MPC REN/Studio or maybe they will leave this feature out who knows.
    • Honestly, it'd be fine by me if some features were left from the LCD screen of Ren & Studio. In fact, I actually expect so. I have no real problem with this because I don't look at the LCD screen anywhere near as much as I do the computer monitor. As long as the features are usable with the controller, I'd be happy.

  • Hmm, so probably a late October, early November release. Let's hope so, because I'd REALLY like to use the MPC Studio I bought back in March. Besides a little testing, I haven't REALLY used it because I personally think the previous generation of software is inadequate.

I'm glad I am comfortable in the last software version. 2.0 is ugly anyways.

    • Interesting view. SO obviously all the feedback that the many early adopters out there provide ain't nothing but crap lol. Just coz you are happy with your set up doesn't mean Akai should stop pursuing new ways of helping people create music in different ways "freshen things up a bit" We all know that that Mpc software is no match for Ableton but in the 2.0 update we should be able to do a bit more within the mpc environment before requiring to hook up to a third party DAW "plus for me". I am not bothered about touch functions either but that's not to say it's a bad thing and for obvious reasons it cannot be implemented in the Studio Black so no need to mourn about it.
    • Nice! New twist since last comments. I now have my 10" Android Tablet running in mirror mode with MPC 1.9.6 running on the PC! So now I'm controlling 1.9.6 with FULL TOUCH FUNCTIONALITY!!

  • Hmm, it's been a month now since poster atomicsoul posted a Twitter exchange he had with Director of Software for inMusic Brands and software lead for Akai's MPC product line, Pete Goodliffe, wherein Mr. Goodliffe stated that the 2nd generation of the MPC software was "a few weeks off" for Ren and Studio owners.

Akai originally projected a 1st quarter release of the new MPC hardware, as well as it's companion software. We're now about halfway through the 4th and final quarter of the year and STILL NO idea as to when the software will officially be released.

Technically speaking, it hasn't officially been released and is still in the beta testing stage, where it's been for nearly a year now, even though the new hardware has been released.

Akai sucks at software development, always has and I don't even know why I thought things would be any different in 2017. Hopefully I can get a decent price for the MPC Studio I have, which has been sitting in a backpack since March this year while I've been waiting for the MPC 2.0 software to go with it. It's a shame that inMusic brands is ruining the legacy of such an iconic brand.

  • Ok I just updated to the MPC 2.0.6 for a brief moment I got I need to update firmware. I go to the link to download Firmware 2.0.5. I then go to the process of Preference, info, shift on the MPC X I see no reset shift update . but the version states 2.0.5.21 (V0.49) can some confirm that this is the just release update.

If so for some reason I did not need to execute the downloaded Firmware 2.0.5 it appears to install by itself
