MPC 2.0 suggestions!!!!!

MPC 2.0 Suggestions from Tong the Idea Man.

1. A better sequencer...something with blocks, this whole copy paste sequence, mute drum pads work flow doesn't work in these days guys. The MPC workflow for creating loops and patterns was its strong point...song sequencing wasn't. That needs to be updated to todays time where most of us are used to working in blocks, clips, drag and drop, command + c, command + v. Something like Reason, Protools, or Logic. Right now the song sequencing is ancient, and this is the main reason why many of us export our wavs just to import them into another sequencer to arrange for mixing and creation.

2. For the love of GOD, stability. MPC is stable at time, but adding VIP crashes it randomly. No error code, no reason why nothing. No option to send you guys the error crash report. So im left guessing with your tech support people on why it's crashing, and frankly I just dont have the time to be sitting here bug hunting on a product that I don't get paid to bug hunt for. This is why most software these days have error codes, so we can relay this information to tech support and they can let the engineers know, hey clients are having issues with this and this is why.

3. Delete insert. The problem right now with this is, I have to click on the insert, go all the way up my long list of plugins, and hit no insert in order to get rid of the insert FX I have in place if I don't want it there anymore. Why can't I just click and hit delete. Or if not, click and hit no insert, but make it more easily accessible like how pro tools has it in the main insert list, and the plugins in a sub group category of manufacturer or plugin category.

4. BETTER DAW INTEGRATION. I undestand MPC is supposed to be a stand alone daw, but if any of the above things are not implemented, I guarantee you that many of us are still gonna export/import into our daw of choice for song arrangement, sequencing, and mixing. If this is the case, why not allow us just to use MPC plugin in our daw of choice, have the ability to use it as a plugin like MPC essentials? Why can't we map our MPK249 to our MPC?

Please Akai...do this for us. Let me abandon Logic/Reason all together and just create in the MPC software. It's amazing, but it just needs a few tweaks. PLEASE.

    5) When scrolling plugins, my God....it's so tedious to check the "ok" button... why don't allow the "confirm" of that one we want use, just clicking "Enter" ?

Actually song sequencing was a strong point for the sequencer. Leave song mode alone, well at least don't change it too much. It is one of the reasons I'm still using a MPC.

There's plenty of options, why change it into something you already have? No matter what nothing will be 100 percent perfect for your workflow.

    • If I wanted an MPC without a computer then I would've bought an MPC 2500 or a hardware model. I bought the MPC Studio because MPC Software looked like it could offer what the MPC hardware did and more by allowing us to do what the original MPC couldnt by integrating newer interface in the software. They already have hardware units that do exactly what you want. Why can't us software users have what we want as well?
    • If you wanted a mouse click DAW then you. Bought the wrong product. I say you don't have an MPC2500 because it to expensive for you. I say you had a laptop/computer then thought about making software based music. Surely Ableton live with push be a better option for you?

What is it you like about the MPC?

I've been chopping , copy, paste and staring at computer screens clicking mouse since the birth of "computer music"

I am glad to have a controller (the MPC) that truly takes me away from that.

I don't work like that. I use song mode also to build sequences. There's a number on the side champ.
You can convert them. I don't use mutes much either I delete them.

  • Even that is more work then click and drag, or click and delete. Why not improve the software to compete with workflow of today's beat making sequencers? I mean that is what the MPC is afterall, it's a Music Production Center. Workflow should be the most important, as the other aspects of creativity on the MPC are top notch already. All the software needs now is a better sequencer to create songs, automation, and easier to navigate. The mouse cursor needs work, as the clicks and target boxes for clicks on notes are really awkward. It's not as fluid or refined as other DAWs that have been around for years, but that's because the fairly new birth of it. That's ok, that's why these boards are here...for us to suggest new things that us clients are looking forward too.

Actually its not, I use DAW`s also. Its easier on the MPC. Your trying to change the MPC into a mouse clicking thing. It should be played like an instrument, not a computer editor. Thats where the improvement should be.

  • It is, so you're telling me you can but your post history of asking questions on how to do the simplest tasks the MPC Studio/Ren can't do says otherwise.

Im not trying to change the MPC into a mouse clicking thing, Akai has already done that by integrating MPC Software WITH it. Allz im tryingz to do is ask for a few features that would enhance it.

You want an MPC without the mouse? Those are already available with years of research and development behind it. You're on the wrong thread. Im speaking STRICTLY on the MPC Studio/Ren where the software is fully integrated with the hardware. Can you play MPC Ren/Studio without the software? You can't...you need the mouse clicking thing. No matter how you slice it, so why not make the mouse clicking thing better?

Relax, dragon breath. I'm on a Touch. My first MPC controller. The reason I bought it is because I'm traveling. It's better to travel light when going around the world. : ) if you didn't know you can do most things without a mouse on on a Touch.

You're looking for edit queen features.
You're reaching aren't you? looking at my past posts. Go ahead show them. Lol

Yours a bit shortsighted aren't you.? Those things you speak about with years of research? You should follow your own advice . They're called Pro Tools, Logic, Live, Cubase.

Your #4 gripe is vague. It's also a plugin genius. I use it with Live with no problems. It's better to mix when it is a plugin. You won't have to deal with export discrepencies, like exploding tracks. You'll worry less about the MPC software using computer power when using plugins. I have a Roli Rise that triggers the MPC also. Than again you might be talking about using the note repeat on the 249. Lol

There are plenty of tips and tricks that you should learn. You wouldn't need to be an edit queen.

    That's more than you deserve.
    • Sure resort to name calling when I pull your card on saying the sequencer needs work, when you made a post saying the sequencer needs work lol.

No need to get your panties in a bunch and start acting like a faggot resulting in insulting others you don't know personally because they have a different opinion...what are you a feminist?

It was just a suggestion, if you don't like it then that's cool too. No need to stick around and start hammering away your ideals on what you perceive I should be happy with and what a good MPC should be. That's subjective and Im just stating what I, ME, and others I know would like. That's what this forum is for isn't it?

      Grow up kiddo.

Don't you want an affordable MPC that offers all that MPC Glory. 16 pads? Chopping? Slicing? 16 Levels? Filters? Sequencing? Modulation? Sampling ?Patch Phrasing? MIDI ? Portable? Affordable?

I did so I bought one and I have NO complaints. For once I got what I wanted. It's hard to pick in this age of abundant Daws, Computers and Controllers.

Still waiting to hear what other HARDWARE and Software combo allows you to step away from your mouse?

Ableton Push? Maschine? Reaper? Reason? Which?

    • Yeah you're not upset, but you keep coming back here hurling insults trying to prove your point because you're a narcissist who gets her feelings hurt when someone doesn't validate your point of view. Lol, you're not foolin nobody ya feeble minded monkey. Im bored with you now, go troll somewhere else. Or just go ahead comin back here tryna get validated on my suggestion thread on the internet about a music device and taking everything personal and calling really weak insults like dragon breathe...*lol wtf*, whatever gets you moist fat girl. Take care now, bye bye :)

  • I would like to see a way to tag and organize your kits, sounds, samples etc such as in the native instruments software. Also better file system file management. My content and uninstallers are are defaulted in the same location amongst other things, at least give us the option as to where we can download the content portion of the software. I know this will be a available as an upgrade but hopefully at a reasonable price.

  • I too love song mode for flexible, non-linear editing (which convert to sequence breaks) but it needs some serious love!

We’re missing critical, on-the-fly control so here are some propsed updates - click images to enlarge...

    1. Song page updates

    - Make song title width slightly shorter so we can
    - Add keyboard button to name the song
    - Next to it add a song copy button which launches window (see 3 below)
    - Add cog icon far right to launch a new ‘Song settings’ window (see 2 below)

    2. Song Settings window

    - Global/track warp switch that overrides/honours track-based warp settings
    - Master BPM
    - Master/sequence BPM toggle to honour sequence BPM
    - Master swing control
    - Master/sequence swing toggle to honour sequence swing
    - Master transpose amount
    - Master/sequence transpose toggle to honour sequence transpose

    3. Song copy window

    - Usual stuff, similar to the copy events window from Main

And here's a cheeky little animated gif which shows the flow - all from the song page itself - click to enlarge...

    IMPORTANT:

    1.
Allow live changes of these parameters while the song is playing, this is about feel

    2.
Allow us to switch to and from song mode while the song is playing. Currently, we can switch to Main or Pad parameters and MPC loops the current sequence - fantastic.

But MPC should remember where you are in the song so we can switch back without stopping playback. Again, this is about assessing the feel of your changes right away, stopping the track kills this for me.

    COMMENTS:

If you can already do all this without converting to sequence, fantastic. But these controls should also be on the song page for on-the-fly adjustment. This is about feel and speed when working - the quicker the better right?

  • What's weird is previous MPC's had some of those features Ben.

I would love to see some midi efx.

There needs to be a more proficient way of converting a song to a sequence. In its current form the tracks to different sequences get messed up converting to one sequence.

There should be a feature which allows the rendering of tracks to audio, combined with the explode tracks feature.

At this rate though, I think we need the MPC to perform more stable and efficient first. The software is a cpu hog.

  • Yep, have just run into the lack of explode features from song mode (there's only explode programs I think).

I know convert to sequence is popular but the idea of Song Mode is way more powerful, it's a shame there isn't more leadership from Akai in this area.
