MPC Essentials Expansions and Plugins

The expansion kits for MPC essentials. How are they loaded in stand alone mode or in VST mode in my DAW?
How can I get the MPC essentials to recognize Hybrid under Preferences/Plugins/New Scan, when it keeps giving me a grayed out box stating "Time-Out". Causing the Sonivox Twist to come up for activation, however, the activation key I was provided for TWIST, does not work! The VST's are not being recognized under plugins in the MPC essentials sequence panel. The Hybrid was successful in downloading and activating. I can use it in Ableton as a VST, no problem. Even when pointing to the /Users folder, still could not get the scan to recognize Hybrid as a plug in? All other plug ins are being recognized! Except the Hybrid?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for posting!

You'll want to make sure that you are scanning the correct bit version of the plugin. If you are using MPC Essentials in 64-bit, make sure that you are scanning the 64-bit version of the software. If you're not sure which one is in which folder, try uninstalling/reinstalling Hybrid and pay attention to the screen that asks you where you'd like to install each version. Where are you choosing to install the plugin?

What is the error that you get when authorizing Twist? Sometimes MPC Essentials does not respond well when asked to authorize plugins while scanning, so I usually recommend to do this manually beforehand. Try this out:

    1) Open your ilok License Manager. This should be in your programs folder. You can also search for it if you can't find it.
    2) Login or create an account if you do not already have one
    3) Click on Licenses > Redeem Activation Code
    4) Enter the authorization code for the plugin from your account page
    5) Follow instructions to authorize and redeem the license
    6) Repeat for all other plugins

It would also be great to know which operating system you are using here and which version of MPC Essentials.

Let me know how this goes!

  • Thank you, I do not have an iLok account. Will I need it in order to continue using this program? The MPC essentials seem to be installed. Not sure if they got installed correctly?

iLok only has come up initially on the Hybrid installation. The MPC essentials were installed. Seemed to work fine on the first installation, but progressively got worse upon updating to the last update.Yes, I chose the 64 bit version, the MPC essentials is found in my plugins folder inside of Ableton.

At this juncture, I do not even know how to work it with the presets, nor understand how the presets are loaded and played? I think I was thinking that MPC essentials was just a drum machine instead of an all inclusive sequencer as well.

Stand alone, it does not do anything, As I said, it will freeze and it will not respond to my preset loads, thus, maybe this machine is not meant for me at this time.

I was given instructions to re-register my MPK249 in order for the issues with the software installation to happen, however, I did so, and I did not see a change. I only have a limited amount of time a week to handle my situation and I just want to get going. I can do without the MPC essentials and the prospective packs, As I explained are not loading, or I am not getting something correct. I just want to know how to build a drum beat. Do I need to drop my own samples in the corresponding drum slots? Thank you!

Changing presets on the MPK is not going to change anything in the software. Those are just for settings on the MPK. You'll just want to have the MPC Essentials preset selected on the MPK.

MPC Essentials is not just a drum machine. It allows you to record and string together sequences with drum elements or a plugin. But at the same time you can just use it as a drum sequence if that's all you need.

The left side of the software is a file browser. Use that to navigate your computer and find any sample files (.WAV) that you have and just drag them to the pads in the software. As long as you have the MPC Essentials preset loaded on your MPK, the pads on the MPK should play the pads in the software.

Have you followed my instructions to authorize your plugins yet? The step by step instructions above will walk you through authorizing your plugins with the iLok License Manager. This gets installed with Hybrid. You do not need an iLok account but I recommend it. It's free and it will make it easier to keep track of everything.

Once you have the plugins authorized, please continue by following our setup guide for MPC Essentials:

MPK249 - Setup in MPC Essentials

This will show you how to set up the keyboard and get the plugins loaded.

Please let me know if you have any specific questions.

  • I’m frustrated
It still doesn't work. The plugins just end up crashing
