MPC essentials software will not install

I just downloaded the MPC Essentials from the link Akai provides and the software will not install because it is the update, and I don't already have the original program on my computer. I have a brand new MPK Mini and can't use the software because it won't install. How do I get the original software instead of the update?

  • Hello Denise,

    Thanks for posting!

The file you download for MPC Essentials does contain the actual installer. Unzip the Update-MPC-Essentials-1.8.2 and run the installer. The window that appears contains some drivers for various MPC hardware. The last item, however, reads 'MPC software' - this is what you need to install. Simply click the install button to begin. This is the full MPC Essentials software not just an update for a past version.

For your reference, the following knowledge base article will walk you through the complete setup step by step and I think it will be useful to you:

    Hi Nick,
I agree with Denise. The MPC Essentials driver does not install for the MPK mini. When I press the install button it says "to ensure that your driver install runs smoothly please close all other applications. Which of course, I have no other applications running and it won't let me press the install button. I assume that since you provided this driver that I am supposed to install it. So I have tried and tried and I have even reset the SMC. The Update 1.8.2 software is marked installed and it seems to be ok. But the driver is not installed. Then to make matters worse for me. The MPK mini will not install in Logic Pro X. Logic does not recognize the keyboard even though they say that the MPK is supported. No matter how many times I have tried. Please help!

    • if I go into Logic, > Control Surfaces> Add, When I scan it tells me I have to manually add the Akai controls surface and that I need to "add it manually'. So I select Akai MPK mini to Hi-light it and then I press "add" and nothing happens. It won't let me add the console. Logic Pro does this with all of the consoles listed. None will add.
    • I can't speak to how Logic should be behaving, through in my experience no setup was required in order to input MIDI notes and other control data with an MPK mini mkII (or any class compliant controller for that matter).

To the point of sending MIDI data, let's test the MIDI output of the MPK. Please download this free software to monitor the MIDI data that is being sent to your computer:

      snoize: MIDI Monitor

If the controller is sending MIDI data to the software's input monitor window, it is working properly. Let me know!

  • Yeah, so apparently one does not NEED the MPC Essentials software to trigger sounds in Pro Tools. I don't even need a dedicated recording/peripherals software program from Akai, I have a boatload of those in my Pro Tools program and all the third-party software I already use, so maybe someday this software will be interesting or maybe not - I just needed the keyboard to trigger internal sounds and plugins.
Here is the Pro Tools work around:
    Select Setup > Peripherals.
    Select Machine Control.
Select Enable under MIDI Machine Control Remote (Slave). Use ID 127.
    Press OK.

    Happy, happy, joy, joy.

  • Yeah for Pro Tool.s. But I am seeing a lot of other people on the web this past two or three months with Logic that are having the same issues. Logic's control surface add is not working and MPK is not loading the driver and the software is not working also. Akai's process for registering and using the look software is cumbersome at best.
