MPC Live workflow

Hello guys, it's my first post here )

For last 3-4 years i had the opportunity to play and test different external gear (Elektron OT,MD,A4,AR, NI maschine, teenage engeneering OP1, Ableton Push2, different analog synths and drum machines),and different software and IOs stuff (Logic,Ableton,Nano studio, Caustic,Lemur and many others). So i kind of understand what i want from MPC Live. (btw it's my first MPC, so the workflow was a bit unusual for me at first, but now its fine.)
So after playing with MPC live of about a week i'd like to say Thanks to Akai for making this awesome machine, i like that it is portable, has decent amount of i/o possibilities, great pads, great encoders and of course the big touchscreen! (and no access to FB and youtube )))
But there are some things that i think should be improved to have more joy and tools at fingertips and less headache and movements while making music:

1)Main menu:
-Please make the program edit button right in the main menu in the Program field in the lower part of the touchscreen
-In the Grid View tools it would be great to make a bigger menu (drop down menu or secondary shift menu) with following options: fold (like in ableton live), double length, copy/paste events.
By the way it would be nice if hardware button copy/delete worked corresponding to the screen you are in, and plus/minus would be paste/cut (i think +/- buttons should be used for some more valuable things, cause there is a great click knob, that works good for precise input)
2)Q-link
-Would be great to always see what every q link knob does, may be you could make a swipe menu with q link parameter ,or the easiest way is to have an ability to pin the q-link menu
3) Interface :
-please make the ability to customize the main menu
-please make swipe menus (for example kind of a dock menu) or may be menu that appears when you press hardware + button and disappears when you press -
-please make the touch FADER MIXER, it is very useful in live situations

4)Features:
-more keywords in browser
-free running lfo
-ability to edit automation standalone

I hope Akai developers wouldn't stop improving the device, cause it has a really great potential! And with proper improvements will definitely become a bestseller

  • Those are some great suggestions. I also hope the the templates become user editable so that we can create custom temolates. Also it would be awesome if the live could use pictures of the soundpacks in the browser just like the software and Native Instruments Maschine Studio. One more suggestion would be to have the unit read the programs from all built in and external sources so when someone taps the program button to load a program you are able to browse through and load immediately without first having to load to the pool in order to then have items available to load to program. Basically being able to turn the unit on, select an empty project, tap program, select a program and hit load. Right now you have to select browse, load samples or instruments or waves to the pool and then tap program and select from the pool then hit load.. That's an extra series of steps that can be eliminated I'm sure because the BKE Beat Thang a much smaller company with far less resources was able to pull that off flawlessly with the company supplied content and user content.

A few more suggestions See pics for detals:

-Currently in standalone mode you cannot rename your song while in "SONG" mode. If you tap "Unnamed" there is no keyboard icon option to customize your own name. Also when exporting a song, give an option to navigate to a particular drive/directory to save the final audio file.

-Add a NOTE EDITOR: A way to tweak parameters on every trigger note on the step sequencer page similar to what can be done on the Toraiz or the Octatrack. For example...holding a corresponding trigger pad will allow you to adjust its individual Pitch, Pan, Level, Balance, Effect, Retrigger, Effect, Note Trim, Envelope using the Q-Link knobs. Maybe even dial in another sample from the sample pool. So you'd have a dry kick drum on every quarter note, but on the 4/4 pitch it up, pan to left - add a taste of reverb, reduce level by 20% or replace with another kick!
Maybe this can already be done but I just have not found a way to do that yet.

    -Copy and paste events from/to pads/programs - (i.e., effects & automation)
