macOS Mojave 10.14 and iOS 12 Support for Akai Pro Products

Hey everybody,
Just wanted to provide an update regarding OS compatibility from DisplayLink.
Per the DisplayLink website:
Important Information about macOS 10.13.4 and later
DisplayLink has worked for many months to maintain support for its users during the transition from macOS High Sierra to Mojave. While functionality such as Ethernet and audio or charging, where implemented, is unaffected on all releases, display connectivity has been limited on macOS releases from 10.13.4 through 10.13.6.
Developers/users with access to Apple’s fifth developer preview of 10.14 Mojave, released on 30th July, will see full support has now been restored for multiple extended DisplayLink displays where DisplayLink driver v4.3 beta 5 is installed. We are doing wide scale testing of v4.3 beta against this preview and will release a new driver upon general availability of 10.14.
Users of 10.13.4-10.13.6 should also use v4.3 beta 5 as it contains a workaround to enable one extended USB display (720p or 1080p). An FAQ details how to enable Apple AirPlay with DisplayLink display for extend or mirror mode.
Users on macOS 10.13.3 and earlier should remain for the time being with DisplayLink driver 4.1 to maintain full extended display functionality.
You can find more information at this link. -
Hey everybody,
I am sorry that you're still having trouble. I would like to clarify this a bit for everyone - the problem you are having is caused by the macOS High Sierra operating system's support for mirroring DisplayLink screens. As the MPC Touch uses a DisplayLink driver, it is an affected device. The link in my original post goes into more detail but this must be addressed by Apple to provide support for mirroring DisplayLink screens.
When I receive any information regarding a fix for this or an update, I will follow up in this thread.

Hey, I have an idea! Maybe Akai could get off their lazy duffs, load it up, and let us know. As this requires almost no effort for a company of this size, you would think they'd have done it already.
-
Akai.....are you gonna help us or naw???? I have the Touch, have bought almost all your expansions and additional content, I then get a new computer and CANT SEE THE SCREEN!!!!!!!! I need a solution TODAY!!! Im on High Sierra 10.13.2 and I'm on Akai 2.1 software. What do I do to get my screen going today?????

Has anyone updated to Mojave beta and see if the touch comes back alive?
-
-
I want to report that I had been on 10.13.3 for the past few months and MPC Touch worked fine, until recently I accidentally upgraded to 10.13.6. Like most people here had experienced, the Touch display stopped working.
I then installed both DisplayLink 4.3 Beta 5 and 6, and followed the instructions given here:
https://support.displaylink.com/knowl...
This got me to a point where the Touch display not only came back again, but also as an extended display (I previously set a different wallpaper specifically for Touch, and that wallpaper showed up).
BUT, the Touch UI doesn't get triggered, what I have now is just an empty screen with the wallpaper showing. And if I set it to mirror mode I can see the Touch screen duplicating the Mac screen, so I assume the DisplayLink is now working properly.
The following 2 photos show my MPC Touch display comes up as extended display, but notice that opening MPC 2.0 software doesn't bring up the Touch UI on the MPC Touch device:
And this photo shows my MPC Touch mirroring the Mac:
Anyways, at least this is a good sign for start. Now I'm wondering if there's something AKAI can do to get the Touch UI properly triggered in this condition.
Thanks! -
-
That's the problem. I'm sure Akai is aware of this problem but they won't do anything. Ummm, that's not really fair, they ARE doing one thing; running out the warranty coverage.

Stupid question, but did you have touch connected to the Mac during the install? I had similar problem on 10.13.4. Helped when installed everything again without the touch connected. And then connected after installation. Should make difference but it did. Probably won't work but you can try.

Bro we are on a forum right now talking about an $600-$800 machine that is not outdated that Akai clearly does not care about and forced you to spend another $1000 on a new MPC only to buy the same sounds they keep charging you for over and over again at several hundred bucks so it’s pick your poison obviously Akai isn’t that good either it’s been a year and this hasn’t been resolved

I gave up on the MPC TOUCH, I went purchase the MPC LIVE!! That way I want have to worry about this problem again.
-
-
I totally understand. I returned my Touch mid January when a lot of the nightmare started. Upgraded to Live and there was no turning back. Fortunately Sweetwater took it back and parlayed return to payments on the Live. No grief, stable and standalone mode made it even better. If you can upgrade, do so. If Akai hasn't fixed this in this time I don't think they're going to. The MPC Live is way better. Sorry to say for all you Touch users on Mac/HS. Good Luck!!

Definitely Agree With You.

The fact that Akai hasn’t confirmed any new testing is mind-boggling. This means we would have to wait until a whole new OS is released just to see if there will be any official support.
To me, this means there won’t be. This also tells me that Akai can and will abandon ANY product at any time. The way they’ve chosen to handle this situation is disappointing and telling. By the way, I would be the first one to eat my words if they actually continue supporting the Touch past 10.13.3.
Regarding Native Instruments, they’re not perfect, no company is. I’ve had great experiences with their customer service and I’ve also had great experiences with Akai customer service. If someone is happier using a different device, more power to them. It’s really all about what works for you.
From a customer stand point, Akai hasn’t been honest with us and I don’t think I’ll give the current Akai any more money. I’ve used MPCs for years and the current Akai just proved that they take customers like me for granted. They assume a customer like me will automatically buy a Live or an X. The Touch provided a real sweet spot for certain studio setups. It’s a real missed opportunity to abandon it like this. -
-
This was my first mpc and it sucks because I always wanted one. Growing up I couldn’t afford one I started on Fruity Loops 2 back in 5th grade lol. Bad first experience with akai.

Hey MPC Touch users, we've one too and quite like it to our outfading legacy
MPC Renaissance.
The MPC Touch quite steadily runs on an older MacOS 10.11.6 and a Win 8.1
system. Both operating systems are not outdated and get support (Apple/MS).
Let's talk about display link: The current issues are on Apples side as we see it.
The fruit company is real good in changing details of their operating systems
..creating trouble with audio drivers and whatnot in the past. This time display
link hardware was kinda left in the dust, when using the very latest MacOS.
It effects all companies offering hardware which depends on display link tech.
If you've a Mac and really need to run the very latest OS, you may run into to
trouble with display link hardware. If this gets sorted out by Apple in a newer
operating system is the question, we wouldn't count on it ..maybe other stuff
isn't working anymore. Use what works today, downgrade to an older Mac
system ..install Windows via Bootcamp on Mac ..get a MPC Standalone if
you're serious about it. Waiting for drivers or whatever won't help the music.

You're right, definitely. Some people say the facts, others just sit and watch.
Akai needs to know about it, and we think they do. Subject is Acknowledged.
The MPC Toch won't be dropped, they cold have done it earlier. The bigger
machines need to be supported with firmware, which takes quite some time.
If you're an Apple Dev you might run the Mojave beta today and already see.
We'll wait for the final release and make a move from OS 10.11.6 to 10.14.x -
-
As stated above by gogsinchina it doesn't matter who broke it....it's a huge issues that needs fixing. Akai have updated drivers for the Renaissance, EIE, EIE Pro, MPC studio and so on. There's zero reason they should be ignoring this issues and zero reason why they have any excuse for this behavior. They wrote new drivers when making the Live and X, so they should be more than capable of incorporating a firmware update or fix for the touch. Displaylink shouldn't have been used regardless, and once again, having them update legacy gear, they need to do the same for the touch. Simply put.

Know what will be funny if they pull something else like this with the MPC Live! I’m good my MK3 is awesome!! And Akai customer service obviously isn’t all that either being we can’t get straight answers about this trash MPC Touch

Go ahead make music with the customers! lol

This really sucks I have tried everything to get this working and now all we have is an extended screen with a pads???????????? I do not want to get a mpc live I want the touch working right answers please?

I turned mine off, it's been 3 months now. Just looking at it everyday like a family picture on my desk. My first experience with AKAI and the last as well !!!
-
-
-
-
-
Hey Nick!!! How about this! put all the features into the software that is exclusive to the hardware (midi chords and midi scales for the pads etc...) so that MPC Touch users can be totally free of that piece of garbage hardware.
-
-
Hey Sean F, you can easily control your MPC software with the MK3 if you want. The MPC software is now open to midi control. However, once you dig into the MK3, you might not want to. Just FYI.
I’ve been using my other equipment since my Touch stopped working properly. I have ZERO confidence it will work with the next macos update. It’s no longer part of my studio. -
-
-
-
I'm going to suppose that as Akai are not saying anything, the MPC Touch is not yet working with Mojave.
Has anyone out there tried it yet? -

It's pathetic that there hasn't been a peep from Akai on this. After this fiasco, I will never buy another Akai product.

I signed up for the beta or whatever updated to Mojave public beta and downloaded display link driver beta 5 and im back up running. But if u downloaded beta 6 you'll need to uninstall that first then install beta 5. All of my programs that I normally use work without glitches. Keyscape mainstage logic kontakt etc
-
-
-
-
I made it work! downgrade to High Sierra 10.13.3 and then install the MPC 1.9.7 after that, upgrade to MPC 2.2.1 with its new drivers.
-
Can you elaborate?
-
-
When you are in Mac 10.13.3, the DisplayLink driver which comes with the MPC 2.2.1 works fine, but you will definitely have an issue if you upgrade to 10.13.6.
-
-
-
-
-
The MPC touch screen iMac Pro also does not work.
mpc touch wants 1280 x 800 screen resolution, iMacPro does not have such a resolution. DisplayLink does not work so iMacPro-
Have you attempted to manually adjust it.
-
-
Or try the next scale down I thought mpc touch was a 1074X768 resolution.....

Has anyone installed the beta version of Mojave and can confirm that this new driver works? I'm sure that Apple will be releasing it next week, during that September 12 event. I want to make sure it will work before I commit to installing a new OS on my music computer.

I can confirm Mojave beta works. No glitches and everything. I don't update everytime apple sends a new beta just to make sure everything still works. So far all is good.
-
-
That sounds very promising, but let's not forget what going from 10.13.3 to 10.13.4 did to so many Touch users. Who thought that a minor update would kill the Touch? Call me paranoid, but I could easily see something like that happening going from a beta release to the real thing. You won't really know until 10.14.1 is released. Be wary, folks.

I’m still taking the news with a grain of salt. Akai said the Touch would be compatible during the onset of High Sierra as well and 3 incremental updates in, it broke.
On the other hand, the MPC software has been rock solid in my experience. I’ve been using it with a different controller. It hasn’t been ideal but it’s been working. -
-
I think it's funny they even have a Dev license and couldn't solve their own issue for the driver they hastily bought, then blamed apple while making continued promises that all fell through. It's just pure garbage like my touch and advance.

Emailed Akai and they emailed back that I should be happy cause MOJAVE solves all the problems? Um, I just told them it didn't? WTF
One more try when the full OS is released, and if not, in the bin with the Touch. -

I've run across many things like this over the years. A piece of software works for some people but not others. It may be a hardware difference or another installed app on the non working computer that is stepping on the toes of the app that doesn't work. Problems like this can be hard to figure out because there are so many variables.
Matthew, was this a clean install of the Mojave beta or did you update the existing system? If you didn't do a clean install, you might want try that. Make sure everything is backed up . . . twice if possible. After you install Mojave, install just the MPC software and see if it works. If it does, install the other apps you need in order of importance checking that the Touch works after each one. You could try installing everything after the clean install of Mojave; who knows, you might get lucky.
I'll tell you one thing, I will never buy another Akai product after seeing how they've handled this. -

I updated to Mojave guys. Mine didnt work at first. I used the Displaylink driver uninstaller once, mac restarted, then installed 5.0. Restarted again. Didnt work at all. Black screen. Then i went back. Uninstalled the driver again. Restart mac. Re-installed the driver. Restart mac again. THEN before i evened opened mpc software i went to the MPC INSTALLER. Configure Screen. Go thru that process now it works fine! Not sure if i did anything special or if it would work for you. But cant hurt to comment my experience.

Hello Everyone,
Just a note that I have completed the upgrade to 10.14 Mojave & DisplayLink 5.0 and the MPC Touch display functionality has been restored. For anyone seeking to complete the upgrades in these early days I would suggest completing a backup so that it can be rolled back in the event of any unforeseen difficulties though.

I’m in the middle of migrating my music production system over to another Mac. I had a lot of issues with that driver installer when I installed it the last few instances. I wonder if that’s what everyone else is having issues with. It was really flaky at detecting the device. I had to unplug it and plug it back in before I could move to the next step. I will make a detailed video of my installation and post it up when I’m done. I am upgrading my Mac Pro up to 12 cores and adding ram. I am currently using a MacBook Pro retina as my music production setup, but it just does not have the resources I need for my projects.
It’s probably I good idea to remove the old one first then reboot then install the new one then reboot again. -

The problem still the same never changed
MPC Touch display is not working -

Mojave day 2 . . . and they still only spec OS X 10.10 - 10.12 on the Touch product page!

Hi,

Hey guys, I can confirm that the Touch works with Mojave. I just loaded the DisplayLink driver for macOS 10.14 and everything works as it should.
For those having problems, make sure you uninstall any old DisplayLink drivers using the uninstaller that comes with the new driver. Also, make sure to restart your computer after you uninstall the old driver.
This whole experience has definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. While I’m glad the Touch can be used now, it hasn’t been in my studio for several months and I feel that the way Akai has chosen to handle this is unsustainable in today’s market. I use products from all of their competitors and I’ve never seen anything like this.
So, in the end, the Touch working again is bittersweet because I know if there is a similar issue in the future, Akai won’t do anything about it. This fix is all because DisplayLink kept working and creating workarounds and betas since 10.13.4.
It’s a shame. I installed the the driver as an experiment just to see if the Touch would work, now I know it does and now it’s turned off again because other equipment has taken its place. -
-
I still don't know what I'm doing wrong. Done EVERYTHING advised, except for a completely fresh install of the OS. That's not how this shit works. Something is not FIXED or WORKING unless the average user, can just install/update the drivers and the software and it works.
Akai shouldn't be saying it works unless its as simple as simple as installing or re-installing software, all these fixes etc are bullshit.
I can't in good conscience sell my touch to a Mojave user saying it works if they have all this messing around to get it as such. -
-
You may not be doing anything wrong. At some point, most users of the MPC software had to uninstall and reinstall the software itself. This might be an issue. You might need to do that and then install all the drivers again.
I agree with you in not reinstalling your computer’s OS. No one should have to do that. I also agree that Akai should be doing more to help us.
However, if you’re tired of all the BS, don’t hesitate to sell your gear. There are a lot of other users that work on Windows or older versions of OS X.
You’re not alone in the problems you’re having. That’s the only comfort most of us have had through this nonsense.- view 1 more comment

I think at this point you have the right attitude and I agree with you about how Akai should be handling this.
By the way, that new Mikro looks great and you get a lot of value for the price. I think you’ll have a lot of fun with it. If you’re not used to Maschine’s workflow, there’s a little learning curve, but after that, you’ll be doing everything you want to do with it musicallly.
I was in an all-day session yesterday using Ableton and Native Instruments and lots of other products on a freshly-installed Mojave computer. We had ZERO problems. -

That sounds awesome. Had to have a session on my Roland SP samplers this arvo, to remember that making music should be fun and shouldn't involve hours trying to troubleshoot problems!

I can’t even upgrade because my Mac is a year too old. And I’m skeptical of downgrading my os for this thing to work. To see that everyone else is STILL having problems a YEAR later. Totatally unacceptable. And the fact that akai doesn’t care is unacceptable as well. First and last akai product. F*ck you akai

Yea that’s crazy. See I’m 30 yes old. I started making beats when I was about 11-12 in the 5th grade off the fruity loops demo version 2. Used that until college in 2007 got a Mac, midi keyboard, etc (home studio) and started using reason until about 2014 and various daws since. But being a youngin with no money at such an early age, I didn’t know much about keyboards or mini. I live in a small town in Ohio so there aren’t any music stores in the area. Always wanted a mpc gowing up. Finally got my first mpc and this happened. Very disappointing. I thought akai would be a reliable company with the long history always seeing them in studios on tv growing up
-
-
Hey, Trill Thug, I'm sorry I'm a little late in replying. I'm 61 years old (wish I was 30 :^) ) and I know what it's like to be disappointed in a once great company (Amazon, Apple, etc.). As a result, I'm never a "fanboy" for any person or company. They have to prove themselves to me every time I have to hand over trust and/or money. I'd always thought of Akai as a good company that made great products. Despite this Touch problem, I still think their products are good, but I'm not sure when change in "attitude" took place. It was probably when they were acquired by InMusic. Companies seldom get better when they are acquired. Anyways, good luck to you, man.

Thanks. My colors are different on my screen once I turn the touch on though. But it’s probably because I have Mojave on an unsupported iMac
-

Well, that sucks! But I guess wrong colors are better than no colors. I hope everything else is OK for you. If you do decide to go back to an older OS, just make sure you can move and open anything you've created on Mojave. All this technology is great, but one thing you can say for acoustic musical instruments is that wood is still on rev 1.

The M.P.C. Touch finally works for me on Mojave 10.14. Follow the guide posted above by Nick D. The main part for me was most likely the uninstallation of the kext files AkaiProfessionalMPCTouch.kext and AkaiTouchPanel.kext. This was a very long wait to make everything work properly and hope this never happens again! Best wishes all!

Just got the touch not realising the issues in this thread.
I have installed 2.2 on High Sierra 10.13.6 with the beta display link driver and the display extension works fine bu no Touch UI!!!
Any suggestions?-
You have two options: Go back to 10.13.3 or move up to 10.14. I'm still on 10.11, so I haven't had to deal with this mess. But, if I were you I'd go back to 10.13.3 (if you can). Why? Because 10.14 is too new. Stay away from brand new operating systems. I said "if you can" because, if you purchased a new computer with 10.13.6 installed on it, you may not be able to go back.

Ok is it just me... I installed Ableton Live tonight and opened the MPC software then turned on my controller. Now my monitor resolution won't adjust to it's normal settings. I tried to manually change it back, but it sets it to resolutions that don't match the size of my display... bad bad display link driver.

Did the Ableton screen suddenly get so big that it was almost impossible to read the text on the screen?
-
yes it did. I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled and now it's working consistently. I have had some strange experiences with this driver.

Can’t believe we all still talking of these issues.
