MPC X Screen Follow for Step Edit with toggle on cue links.

You know how when you do lazy chop and you get to pad 16, the pads change by themselves to the next bank of 16 pads by it self so you can keep on chopping?
This is how step edit should run! IMO

Sorry guys... Accidentally posted just the beginning. Here's the whole idea!!

You know how when you do lazy chop and you get to pad 16, the pads change by themselves to the next bank of 16 pads by it self so you can keep on chopping?

Please create a toggle switch (preferably on a cue link) so that when we are using step edit, we can have a similar work flow. Option settings...Regular... like it works currently. And follow/ chase.
For example... A four bar seq in 1/16 resolution. As the bars change, the next bar keeps up always keeping the active bar visually on the pads.
When using step editing my least favorite thing is having to manually move the bars (button on screen only!) to be able to visually keep up with the step editor.
Yes you can adjust the play parameters to just play the bar you want over and over... and manually move to that bar...
But I want to use the step editor with ease, on any sequence length....instantly!
Right now using step edit on a 8 bar sequence is a level of pain I'm not willing to tolerate. So I use it less than I would like to.

Why not have the pads just keep up as you play back the sequence, and stop where you want to work?
So if you hit the “screen follow/ focus” toggle, twist the cue link left...the screen will follow along...twist right then the screen that your on will just repeat until you toggle back to follow again.
And working with the above... if you put the “next bar” button on a cue link, and use the above to focus on that bar to repeat it. This cue link will let you incrementally move the bar selected while in “focus/ frozen” mode either left or right on the time line.

I realize that in 1/32 or 1/64 resolution there would be no way to keep all the info in front of the user visually because the lights would move across the pads too quickly.
Maybe under this resolution there should be a cue link that controls the tempo / time temporarily while in the step edit mode in conjunction with the bank buttons?
This would slow everything down nicely for some very detailed step editing!

    Just a thought,

  • I agree 100%. It would be cool to also have the ability to add/edit automation for each step.
    • Hey question,

Do you still use your MPC Touch on windows 7 operating system? I seen in another post 3 years ago about you using windows 7 every day and it works fine. So I have a windows 7 Toshiba laptop as well as a macbook with OS X 10.6.8 which in this case both operating systems are old. Which system would I have better luck using you think? If it runs FINE NOTHING WRONG on windows 7 then I should be okay? Right?

      Thanks!
    • I would go with windows 7, I never had an issue while using the MPC Touch with it. Mac OS is kind of flaky in the sense that things don’t always work well from one OS to another OS, but Windows 7 & Windows 10 worked well.

  • Hey everybody,

    Thanks for posting!

I would love to see that too! I do like being able to edit the velocities of events with the Q's but I think this could be a great feature to keep the workflow a bit more fluid when working with step edit. As always, if there is a feature or function you would like to see in the MPC workflow, please be sure to submit this as a feature request with the MPC 2 Software's built-in feedback module. The feedback module is represented by a smiley icon at the lower right side of the software next to the browser icons. This information goes directly to the Akai team for consideration!

If you need an alternative method of submitting feedback, you may use the following links:

MPC - Submit a Feature Request

    Thanks for your feedback!

  • Glad you like the idea! I never have my studio computer connected to the net. I post to the forum to participate with my fellow MPC rockers. Should I use that link to submit an idea, or post em to the forum and you guys pass on the ones You like? Seems like ideas have a better chance if you guys choose what gets passed on... But I'll figure it out.

    Thanks!
