MPD232 Firmware Update Release?

Any idea when the next firmware update will be out for the MPD232? Latest update I have found is the 1.01. Anything more current? Or does anyone know when we'll be getting the next one out?

Thanks!

  • Hi Tyler,

    Thanks for asking!

Announcements about updates and new releases will not be made here on the forum. When the company is ready to make an announcement or release an update they will do so through the newsletter or by posting the update on the Docs & Downlaods page:

  • There doesn't seem to be any downloads for firmware. I can download the MPD editor as version 1.08, but nothing about firmware updates.

Last firmware update I have is 1.01. Is there anything else newer?

  • It's been 6 months or more with the same bogus sequencer implementation.

When are we seeing a fix?

  • Tyler I am waiting with you, I can't believe this. First I bought the Trigger Finger Pro and there is no update till now and the same story with the (in potential) good Akai MPD 232. Such a shame.

A fix for what? Why do you need a firmware update?

Besides the fixes provided by the firmware I shared above, I have seen no other case that I can think of where an update for the firmware was necessary.

Keep in mind, that while we enjoy hearing customer feedback and suggestions to improve the product (like your post here), firmware updates are not typically released simply to provide new features. Either way, you will not find any information regarding updates here on the forum as I mentioned above. Please refer to the newsletter or Docs & Downloads page.
    • Hi Corey,

We need an update to fix undisclosed problems with the sequencer.

There is no mention of bunk step length or default volume settings in the promo videos.
I have to be honest, if these issues aren't addressed I will have lost all faith in Akai products. It has been one after another of flashy sales videos that mask the shortcomings of devices.

At this point I basically don't trust Akai and look elsewhere even when the products look good.

For instance, I think your MPK261 looks like the best Midi controller out there, but, I will end up going for Art.. you know, that french company, because The after purchase support at Akai is nonexistent.

I want to love Akai... Really.

      Cheers.

    Hi Corey and David,
Thanks for backing me up on this. There is so much with this sequencer that I wanted and honestly never got. And these are things that are really expected on a sequencer (see my above list). For what it's worth, I'm not buying another Akai product again. This controller is collecting dust which is a shame given its potential.

All we wanted was a firmware update for a handful of things.
    • Hi Tyler,

I'm in the same boat. When so many other companies will gladly address firmware requests and generally want to improve their products, I can't see myself buying anything from any of the InMusic family of brands again.

The "bait and switch" business philosophy doesn't work for very long.

InMusic is only a good customer service department away from making great products.

      Corey,

I appreciate your feedback and advice and I know it must be difficult to hear this type of criticism. It seems that unfortunately your hands are tied.

      Thanks anyways.

  • Hi guys,

I'd like to reiterate first that there will be no announcements about firmware updates or status here on the forum. If you are interested in hearing about new information from the company as soon as it's released, here are a few ways that you can stay ahead of the curve:

    • Follow the company on Facebook.
    • Follow the company on Twitter.
    • Sign up for the company newsletter.
    • Check the website homepage or product pages.

Until information exists in one or all of these places, there will not be any official announcements or discussions about future releases here on the community forum.

With all of that being said, we appreciate your interest and suggestions. While the product may not have been designed with your particular needs in mind, your feedback is crucial in improving our products.

In the end, this is not a full fledged sequencer and may not have all of the features of other more dedicated sequencers. This is a tool for the MPD232 and not the focus of it's design. Sound on Sound described it nicely as a "fun extra."

For the future, we do provide documentation, such as User Manuals, on every product's website that will go over all existing features of a product. We also typically send out product to different publications for reviews and feature overviews, such as the Sound on Sound article I linked above. The flashy product videos are fun and catchy, but in no way are they intended as the only available source of information or promotion for the product. And on top of all that, I'm always happy to answer any pre-sales questions here on the forum.

While I do hope that we improve these features in the future, I can not make any guarantees. I fully understand if this product does not then meet your needs, and I would not expect you to sacrifice your time and energy trying to force it.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to help.

  • I’m frustrated
One question... Is there or is there not any intention on Akai's part to release a firmware update to address these problems?

If yes, great. If no, thanks for being honest. If you dodge the question again I am done with Akai and InMusic products.

Corey, look on your own website and your own promo videos. The sequencer is the first of the listed features and it is promoted heavily in your videos. It is not a "fun extra" from the sales pitch.

I am asking your for a straight forward answer to a simple question. Will there or wont there be a firmware update?
    • David,

I understand your position and it must be difficult, but you're also putting me as a representative of the company in a difficult position. I don't have yes or no answers to these questions unless the company has already announced it. I never do.

With that being said, my professional opinion would be that firmware updates, simply to add new features, are rare. And this is coming from my experience as a music professional.

So, no, I would not count on there being an update to add features to the sequencer.

At the end of the day, we do appreciate all of your feedback; good or bad. I'm sure the Akai Pro team will be happy to consider this if they ever need to make any updates or build new products.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
    • well thats it for me, everything Akai that i own is going up for grabs... this is corporate BS. if you want a solid customer base....try supporting the CUSTOMERS....not just your investors....Good Bye Akai

    Corey,

I appreciate your candid answer regarding the update. I wont plan for one.

It is unfortunate though because I'm upgrading a lot of my equipment at the moment and I have to say that I can't go any further with Akai/InMusic.
Pretty much everything I have bought from Akai, M-Audio, Alesis over the last few years was 1 or 2 significant issues from being useable.

When I think of investing in something like the MPC Touch or Akai Advance, I can't help but be sure they will be the same.

In my personal experience many of the other companies out there do regular firmware updates based on after-purchase feedback. Arturia, Elektron, Novation... to name a few examples.

If the firmware/after purchase support policies change I might be interested.
But as it stands, every time there is an issue I am being directed to a non-relevant part of the product manual. No one there is actually listening, just passing the buck.

Anyways, I guess I have an answer. My MPD232 will be a shelf relic. I can't even sell it with a clear conscience.
