MPK 249 AND MPK 261 will not load in Studio One 3

I am having a problem with Studio One 3 not loading the MPK 249 or 261.
It. with a RED cross bone icon. In the external device menu it is recognizing it because when you unplug it you get the yellow triangle, and then you plug in the usb cable it see it and the yellow triangle with the"!" disappears. - but start the program and the Red warring icon comes up in the beginning of the program

Lets take a step back - My studio has - Windows 7 Pro with Studio One 3.3.4 version. Both the 249 and 261 load and work perfect.

Take the controllers over to my friends studio and the problem described in the first paragraph happens.

He has windows 10 Pro and using Studio One 3 3.5 - i set every completely identical to my set up - we are really confused. Message with the Red cross bones - the MPK249 will not load.. . almost like it needs a firmware up date but i see their are none to download. - the only 2 difference between computers are windows 7 vs 10 / and the Studio One version - these differences between the 2 computers this should not really be an issue.

Note that we have tested the program with a Novation Mk1 and had no problems.

if someone has any idea that would be very helpful and much appreciated.

  • Hey MKM,

    Thanks for posting!

The MPK series is class compliant so it will use drivers that are already on your computer to connect. You will not have to worry about installing a driver manually to use an MPK series controller. To test the output of the controllers, we should take Studio One out of the equation to verify that they are sending MIDI data properly to your computer.

    For testing on PC:
    MIDI-OX

This video will get you set up quickly for Input Monitoring in MIDI-OX:
    Monitoring MIDI Input with MIDI-OX

Can you select these controllers as MIDI input devices and send MIDI data to the input monitor window?

    Let me know!

  • Thank you.... Earlier today I received an email from Presonus and they said that Studio One 3.5 has some midi issues and midi controller issues. Although that did not mention the name of the controllers that were having issues, the Akai 249 and 261 fall right into what they are conveying. - I told them in my post that the 2 were Akai controllers - 249 & 261. Presonus recommended that my friend's studio should work with an earlier version until they have a fix...which they did not have a date.

Funny thing is Novation controllers are working perfectly Studio One 3.5 but both Akai controllers are not and are hooked up the same. (also if you previous read my opening post ...they both work perfect in my studio with Studio One version 3.3)

Thought you may find this very interesting and may follow up with Presonus directly since it is affecting Akai controllers not working in Studio One 3.5
