MPK 2XX Pad Colors and Banks Assignable by Midi Note

Would it be possible to make the pads on the mpk2xx series respond to midi commands? Ideally, the ability to change the off color / on color / and the current pad bank selected. Preferably by just sending a midi note... The ability to make the pad blink via a note would be sweet as well!

  • Hi,

    Thanks for asking!

You won't be able to change the colors or banks on the MPK with a midi message but you can get the pads to flash as if you were hitting them.

Essentially, the pads will respond if sent to the same note they are set to. So, if pad 1 is set to a C3, it will flash if you send it a C3 note.

This is pretty easy from any DAW. Just create a midi track and insert your recorded midi sequence (preferably recorded with the pads so that you know all of the notes are correct), then set the midi output of the track to the MPK using channel 10. The pads should be set to channel 10 by default, so if you changed this on the MPK, just use the corresponding midi channel to send back to the pads.

and that's it! if you play back the file you should see the pads light up accordingly.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions!
