MPK249 Red edition G3 velocity sensitivity damaged

MPK249 G3 sending full velocity : /

Ive had this baby for less than a year, and today all of a sudden, I started it up and proceeded to have some seriousfun but NOPE! My G3 key vel sensitivity seems to be damaged or something : /// its sending full vel signal.

There are no official akai shops or distributors here in costa rica...im feeling well desperate! : (((((((((

Could it be fixed by an electronic engineer with ease?

What can I do on my end ?

Thx AKAI FORUM! : D

  • Hey Enr Carv,

Sorry you're having trouble with your MPK249! Let's first try to test it with MIDI monitoring software to see what velocities your computer is receiving.

    For testing on PC:
    MIDI-OX

This video will get you set up quickly for Input Monitoring in MIDI-OX:
    Monitoring MIDI Input with MIDI-OX

    For testing on Mac:
    snoize: MIDI Monitor

If you do see that it is sending high velocities consistently in the software, try resetting it. There are a few resets you can perform on this controller. Here's how to do it (Keep in mind that resetting will overwrite all presets and settings you have saved):

To restore the factory default Global Mode settings:

    1. Press Preset to enter Preset Mode.

    2. Press the Left Cursor button so Factory Settings appears in the display.

    3. Turn the Value Dial and select Globals.

    4. To restore MPK249's factory default Global Mode settings (which overwrites those you have saved), press the Value Dial. To cancel the operation, press Preset.

To restore the factory default Presets:

    1. Press Preset to enter Preset Mode.

    2. Press the Left Cursor button so Factory Settings appears in the display.

    3. Turn the Value Dial and select Presets.

    4. To restore MPK249's factory default Presets (which overwrites those you have saved), press the Value Dial. To cancel the operation, press Preset.

If the MPK is still sending high velocities after resetting, it does sound like it could be hardware related. Warranty and non-warranty claims are not handled here on the forum, but I can point you in the right direction! Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

    • Submit a Warranty or Service inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the Akai Pro Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu.

    or

    • For quicker support, call your nearest Support Office or International Distributor.

Make sure to reference or link this thread to help out the support team.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you for the template reply...

Why would a factory reset help?

It ́s obviously hardware related, the key is acting strange...

Less than a year after I bought it.

Seems to be the Akai way.

Also, I did have midi ox before, but cant see where the vel info shows up on the monitor. WHat i can tell you is sometimes that very key seems to send double messages, like two times on/off in a row.

What I need is information on Costa Rican shops you fully support.

I'm not nor am in the US. Can't seem to find any Akai official shops or retailers here....

I was getting an mpc live but not after this...why would a 400usd keyboard start giving me issues less than a year after buying it? It ́s never left the studio, it ́s been treated like a princess.
    • I am weeping same issue from Nigeria. Less than a year. First I noticed the G# not sounding properly. Pitch bend, now modulation wheel and at least 6keys on keyboard not working... They produce velocity of zero sometimes it's a double note sound. I bought this over 500$ and it got spoiled like a piece of crap. I also need a support in Nigeria.... I am indignant about this... And Honestly I feel like I will personally destroy this keyboard in a video and upload it in all the producer forum I belong... Including all your support portal, for people to see that it very worthless this object you sell, so they don't waste their penny on it.

  • It is possible that there is a hardware issue but I wouldn't want you to have your MPK serviced if there was nothing wrong with it to begin with. Testing in different ways helps rule out different causes for why a controller is not working as expected.

If you've had it for close to a year, I expect you've done some editing in the menus. A factory reset would help you in case you had inadvertently altered a setting and that was the cause of the velocity not sending properly.

Velocity in MIDI-OX is relative to the 'Data 2' column. In addition to MIDI-OX, you may also want to test the controller in a different DAW just to verify that the key is also sending high velocities in other software.

In the event that this is a hardware problem, it is difficult to say what the cause of the problem is without a physical inspection and diagnostics. I would encourage you to get in touch with your nearest support office at the link in my previous post but here is your point of contact for Costa Rica (taken from the Akai International Distributors web form):

  • I've had some luck clearing the velocity glitch by dialing one or more of the Global > Keyboard > Curve/Gain/Black/White parameters forward and then back 5 ticks or so...

  • I’m Very very angry about Akai
My god i feel exactly like you Enr Carv. I bought it 2 years ago for 400 euros in France, now i have the SAME problem A4, B4 and C7 are sending two notes with maximum velocity or 0.
Now the warranty is over and if want to repare it in Paris it cost 200 euros (they say it's a mainboard problem) i treated the keyboard very very well but... Because i
tought it was a good product.

Good job Akai! we talking about a 400 euro keyboard...

Ps: Enr Carv did you find a solution bro ?
