MPK 49 and Pro Tools

Hey,

I have a problem with my MPK49 : He doesn't work with my Pro Tools 11...

I've sought a solution on the internet and I've found many things but nothing works!
So I would know :

1) How can i set up Pro Tools and/or MPK49 for they work together?

2) Can you give me a vyzex template for Pro Tools?

Well, that's it! I hope you understand what I mean, I'm french and I'm not very comfortable with the English language!

Edit : And I'm on PC, Windows 7 - 64 bit.

  • You do not need a special template for pro tools. Do you see the MPK listed in this PT menu: (PT > Setup > MIDI > MIDI input devices)? Make sure the editor is closed, it is not needed for basic use.

  • Ok! Thanks for your help!

    - I've downgraded protools (11 to 10), and now, the Keyboard works! (Good!)

    - And yes the MPK is listed in the "MIDI input devices"

    - But I don't understand what you mean by "editor"... What is it?

So, the last problem I have is to use the MPK as a controller! I've tried to sync with MMC but without success...

    • Ok! Thanks for your patience!

      - Yes I did it. I've pressed edit on the hardware then I've pressed "enter" when I've seen "transport" on the sceen. I've selected "MMC" and I've pressed "enter" again. Good?

      - But after that, i don't really understand... (Sorry)

      - In the software i go to: setup > peripherals > Machine Control.
In "Machine Control" menu I can enable the control as a master or as a slave.
I need to check master and select the MPK, right?

      - But for the last part i'm totaly lost... "Now in the bottom left corner of the transport change it from pro tools to MMC - selecting your controller port."

I don't understand what you mean by "the bottom left corner of the transport".

I'm really sorry, I feel like a huge newbie...
    • In Pro Tools Setup/Peripherals/Machine Control, you would need to set Pro Tools as the MMC Slave, not the Master.

This would mean that the transport control buttons on the MPK (Master) would control the Pro Tools transport controls (Slave), if that is what you want.

  • Thanks!

So, i set ProTools as the slave in "setup/peripherals/machine control".

This is totaly what I want : control ProTools with the MPK!

But I don't understand what the "transport" is. And because of that I can't do the final step : "Now in the bottom left corner of the transport change it from pro tools to MMC - selecting your controller port."

    • It may not be relevant now, but the MAX series does implement Mack!e control and HUI commands. The touch faders would control your mixer and you can nudge banks with the software to focus on 8 tracks at a time.
    • J Sandeen, I just purchased a max 49 and need help setting it up. I cant use touch faders as you said above in pro tools 11. Using the faders to mix volume levels 8 at a time is exactly what I am trying to do. Please comment back or email me. Emailmiketate@gmail.com
I really need someone who has connected max 49 to pt1 to explain to me how to accomplish this. Also i can not use transport button on max

  • I just purchased the MPK49 but I don't have ProTools connected in order to try this yet. Can someone tell me if the MPK Tap Tempo feature controls the tempo on Protools?
    • view 5 more comments
    • Right. That makes sense. I will try this as soon as I get ProTools up and running. I will reply once I finish a test of everything.
    • Let us know if you have any other concerns.
Simon is correct, you cannot tap tempo for the DAW in external clock mode. Its just follows the beat clock coming from the DAW.

Not sure if you guys are still looking for a solution but I currently have my MPK 49 controlling everything in pro tools 11 (including faders and pan knobs) My settings are as follows:
    Setup>Peripherals
Machine Control slave enable ID 127
Under MIDI Controllers set up M Audio Keyboard Receiving from MPK in 2 and outgoing to MPK out 2

Make sure MPK settings define transport as MMC

After this you will have to set your control values correctly
Faders 1-8 are Control values 33-40

Works great this way! Hope this helps it has been bothering me for a couple days.

  • Hey,

I'm a bit confused about how this works.

I set up everything in Pro Tools as you suggested, and changed the control values of the faders using the guide provided by sweetwater. ( http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/a... )

I'm not sure how to edit the MPK settings to define transport as MMC.

Can you explain it in a bit more detail?

    Thanks!

Hit any transport button (such as play, stop, etc.) on your MPK then right above that hit edit (still on the mpk) then use the scroll wheel to select MMC and hit enter then you should be all set.

  • Ok, I've read all the comments. But I still can't get my MPK 61 to work with Pro Tools 11. Well I can get the Transport to but the keys don't work. I know the keyboard works because I tried it with Logic Pro 9 and Pro Tools 10 after I realized the MPK 61 didn't work with Pro Tools 11. Help Please.

  • Hey Everyone(:
Its really nice to see there's a place that talks about those things(:
Does anyone knows how to auto map the mpk 49 to pro tools as default?
Like: The Mpk will control the Vol faders on the mixer, the panning knobs as well
    know how to do it?

I'm trying to use the MPK25 to control ProTools 11
I have the same problem.. no sound from virtual instruments
Trying to control Superior Drummer 2.4 and DB33 organ in PT 11
I have no problem changing the settings in either ProTools 11 or the MPK25
It just don't work.. a PT 11 error message says :
"The original MIDI device associated with the MIDI controller 'M-Audio Keyboard' could not be located. Please choose an existing MIDI device in the MIDI controller section of the peripherals dialog."
There is no Akai MPK25 available under MIDI controller type, only under send from and receive to.

The MPK25 firmware version is 2.0
(I had to update Superior Drummer 2.0 to 2.4 to get ProTools 11 to recognize it.)
My feeling is that the MPK25 2.0 firmware is not compatible with ProTools 11.
I don't see an MPK25 firmware revision available at akaipro.com
ThisAkai is going back to the store if I can't Sync it to ProTools 11 in the next 24 hours

  • I returned the MPK25 to Guitar Center, they couldn't figure it out either.
I did figure it out, no thanks to Pro-Tools or MPK25 user guides.
You have to enable record on the track you are using it on.
