MPX8 editor can't open on Mac (High Sierra)

I found that some other guys are also facing the same problem, after clicking the icon it just keeps bouncing in the dock and then "MPX8 Editor was quit unexpectedly" comes out, tried all the hints I can find from the forum and failed, any real solution out now?

  • Hey Gin,

    Thanks for posting!

Sorry you're having trouble with that! The MPX8 editor can be opened and will send data to MPX8 hardware with the current version of the High Sierra operating system (10.13.4):

Try disconnecting any other MIDI devices that you may have connected to your computer. You can also try creating a new MIDI configuration in your computer's Audio MIDI Setup.

I think the following Apple resources may also be useful to you:

Apple - Q: Programs quit unexpectedly

macOS Sierra: If an app freezes or quits unexpectedly

If you continue to have difficulty, it is possible that there is an underlying conflict on your computer in which case I would recommend reaching out to Apple for additional support.

    I hope this helps you!

  • Dear Akai

Have just purchased an MPX8 for live use and am very disappointed to discover that the MPX8 Editor really doesn't work useably under High Sierra.

I have access to 3 different MacBook Airs all running High Sierra one of which is a clean format and OSX install. I am very occasionally able to get the app to start ok, deleting the plist file from the App > Package > Contents sometimes allows a startup, also reopening from the dialogue after a crash occasionally worked.

Having wasted a few hours trying different things I am unable to get the app to run consistently on any of the laptops, most of the time the icon just bounces and ends with "Application not responding" and a "Force Quit" is needed.

Please investigate and fix this issue!

    Thanks Basil Brooks

This is clearly not down to Apple, this version of the app (1.0.1) is now 5 years old and needs updating to remain compatible with OSX.

  • I've been trying to install the app and got no further than seeing the dmg icon bounce once. Nothing happened afterwords. I'm on High Sierra 10.13.6 . Such a bummer!

  • I got it to work.
I upgraded from Mac OSX 10.11 (El Capitan) to 10.13.6 (High Sierra), and I was getting the MPX8 Editor bouncing in the dock, and then quitting unexpectedly. (I had the Editor installed before upgrading the OSX).

THE FIX (that worked for me):
From the Applications folder, I right-clicked on the MPX8 Editor.app, and chose Get Info. I then unchecked the box for Open in 32-bit mode.

I can't tell you why this worked, but after doing this the MPX8 Editor opened and worked exactly like before. Hope this helps.
