I’m frustrated

My MPC X is stuck in update mode

I started the update to go to 2.2.1 the update failed and now my machine is stuck in update mode. I left it in this state for over an hour, afterwards I decided to turn it off but now whenever it comes on it goes to update mode and the update continually fails!
How can I fix this?

  • My MPCX got stuck on the boot screen after installing the 2.2.2.1 firmware. I let it sit for a while since the flash drive was still attached and it just auto-reboots, some red button lights were lit up on the device during this wait.

Anyways, after a while (couple of minutes, maybe) I pulled the flash drive out, and after some time still, I figure I'll pull the plug on the machine, and I cannot say for certain if I pushed the power button or if my finger was just about to, but I think I may have pushed it lightly, and the main screen popped up.

At this time I figure it's probably best to make sure it works appropriately before messing around with stuff, so I shut down and started it back up and it works just like it used to. I repeated this a couple of times and I am happy.

I would probably have the team look at the post upgrade process, because it was not smooth, whether it supposed to take extra time after the upgrade, there should probably be some information on the screen about it.
    • The point I was trying to make was that I don't think that there was anything wrong with the update per se, but rather the USB update process.

I used a USB flash drive which was formatted using exFAT, removed the rest of the file name (nice naming with the dual .img, made it super easy) and copied it to the root of the flash drive. Popped it into the back of the MPCX, then I located and used the UPDATE button.

Except for the near heart failure after the reboot, it was painless. :)

  • I just had the same problem. And I was not even updating anything. My MPC just went suddenly to UPDATE MODE and I can't do anything.

Trying to solve the problem I updated to firmware 2.2.2. Update worked but then, back to UPDATE MODE and frozen.

    Help anyone?

  • I also tried to update my MPC X to version 2.3, but it's stuck on Update Mode. It's been stuck on Update Mode for over an hour. Is there any fix to this?

I tried to update it with a USB flash drive.

  • First make sure your usb is formatted for the MPCX / MPcLive, and there’s nothing on it, second go to Akai support page, look for the “usb” update and down load.. “image” download should be the “only” thing that should go to the usb! Plug it into your mpcx, shif /update, it should work!
