One should be able to rearrange tracks, be they MIDI, Program, Clips, Key groups on MPC 2.0 or MPC X/ LIVE within track view command.

I do not see how to rearrange tracks for MIDI or Audio via Software or Hardware.

  • You can't just swap tracks / programs like a drag&drop way actually. You can copy all data from one track to another and clear track.
Maybe the same method what other DAW's doing in the background when you drag&drop a content.
You can't simply drop over a selected content between tracks either.

  • Thanks BG.
I am aware of the suggesting you made.
My issue was I have dropped some takes on tracking via program/MIDI and audio.

The MIDI I used was with my Yamaha Montage internal multi-timbre and I forgot to use the Montage connect plugin which they recommend to load before the MIDI tracks within MPC 2.0 DAW or any DAW.

The Montage Connect plug-in save your session within the Montage keyboard and DAW for recall once you save the project, this is why they call it Montage connect.

So I did not want to go through the tedious task of clearing track, copying and pasting, which could mess up what i have already done.

This is why I requested this option or feature from the suggestion/report bug feature.
Basically it would make for simplicity and dynamic as well as a robust work flow.

  • you can rearrange tracks. you can opt to copy the track but change the program being used after copying or mute the current track and create a new audible track from the same programs content or you can layer/mix the track by recording a new track of the same or different program content or you can add a new sequence to your project by copying the sequence or leaving the current sequence behind creating a whole new set of tracks with either a new program or use the current available program in a new abstract way.

  • Hey Seker,

    Thanks for posting!

I do understand what you're saying in terms of deliberately rearranging tracks without having to copy/move data manually. I think this function would also be useful if it could be implemented in a way that does not disrupt the other tracks in other sequences (which is an important factor when constructing a song). Be sure to submit this as a feature request with the MPC 2.x Software's built-in feedback module. The feedback module is represented by a smiley icon at the lower right side of the software next to the browser icons. This information goes directly to the Akai team for consideration!

If you need an alternative method of submitting feedback, you may use the following links:

MPC - Submit a Feature Request

    Thanks for your feedback!

Glad you pointed that out, without disrupting other tracks in other sequences in consideration for constructing songs.

    Thanks

  • As a follow up, if you are using the track mutes feature, it is much easier if the tracks are arranged in a structured manner. In track mute view tracks 1-4 form the bottom row of pads, 5-8 the next etc. In my case I typically use 4 hardware synths going into my mixer and sometimes have two parts played on the same synth (to swap within a sequence, or to add/remove notes on the fly).

I like having my tracks arranged with the columns matching my mixer channels and the rows corresponding to the parts. This means the pad columns correspond to the tracks played through the mixer channel whose fader is above them (very easy to understand). I then typically leave a row of tracks empty and on the top row, put the parts played by the MPC.

Since composition is quite different from performance and arrangement my tracks are often not arranged in this way at all. I end up copying the tracks all into the next bank (tracks 17-32) then copying them back to the low range in the order I want, clearing any tracks I want empty, and then clearing the copy tracks. Being able to rearrange the tracks in the track mute view by dragging them around would be great. If not, then a simple way to swap reorder the tracks would help a lot.
