Patching MPC X and Moog Mother 32

Hello everyone.

I might be missing out, - yet there is a small question I have.

When patching MPC X and Mother 32 I encounter several difficulties.

With Track 1 CV1 to Gate(M32), CV2 to VCO/OCT(M32) and Velocity Port CV2 MPC X seems to have difficulties to control the whole range of the pitch of the Moog Mother 32.

Whether I select a lower octave for pads on MPC X or try to lower the voltage output, - it only pitches M32 from somewhere in the middle of the range and does not go lower. Moreover in Octave 0 on Pad Bank A it only starts to pitch from the pad 9.

Also the pitch control does not seem to work permanently...in the main menu when hitting any pad on MPC X each of them simply jumps through the same series of octaves of the same pitch/note. Every pad repeats the same.

Same seems to appear when using the sequencer. It only pitches (with the same limits as above) when using the grid mode as well.

Was not really able to find anything in the FAQ so far and would be curious to hear whether there are ways of dealing with it.

Many thanks in advance!

  • Hey Anton,

    Thanks for posting!

I think you may be having difficulty because the MPC X sends CV values of 0V to +5V only. The Mother 32 is looking for voltage values of -5V to +5V for CV control. This is why you are hearing notes in the middle of the range and not lower notes (zero value is the exact middle between +5V and -5V).

You should be able to adjust the octave setting on the Mother 32 itself in order to change the octave of the synth module and play in the desired range with the 0V to +5V that the MPC X will send.

I hope this helps you! Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Hey hey Nick!

    Thank you a lot!

It is very helpful, - yet I figured it is even simpler to trigger the moogs through the midi, - there it seems to cope well immediately in the best possible way.

In any case, - appreciate your insight and attention

    Best
