Phantom mute group in MPC 500 - Only one sample at a time

Hello. I'm new with the MPC 500 and I'm studying it hard these days to take out from it the functions I need (I don't do hip hop). I didn't understand one thing that was doing my machine, and I am finally thinking that my machine has some error. It maybe happening to other people.

Sometimes, in the program mode, when I modify the field "Mute group" or the Play mode ("One shot/Note on") of one or some of the pads, the machine ends playing only one sound at a time. As if all my pads were in the same mute group (wich is not the actual configuration). If I have recorded a sequence it is also affected for that change. I don't know yet if it happens in other circunstamces.

For what I experimented It tends to be fixed if I save the program, turn off the mpc, turn it on again and load the program. It's a bit annoying for production, but in a live situation it might be problematic and reduces drastically its usefulness.

My mpc runs OS 1.31.
Is it any way to solve this?

  • Hey carlos,

    Thanks for posting!

The MPC500 is a legacy product and as a result, has limited support available. I would recommend that you check the polyphony settings in the Voice Overlap and Mute Group menus. Check page 79 of the MPC500's user guide for more information about Voice Overlap and Mute Groups.

You can access the MPC500's user guide at the link below under Downloads:

    Akai Pro MPC500

If changing the settings in MPC's menus do not help and you continue to have some trouble, it is possible that the hardware could be malfunctioning and may require service. Warranty and non-warranty claims are not handled here on the forum, but I can point you in the right direction! Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

    • Submit a Warranty or Service inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the Akai Pro Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu.

    • For quicker support, call your nearest Support Office or International Distributor.

Make sure to reference or link this thread to help out the support team.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.
