Piano Roll - Keyboard Notation View Option...

The piano roll when in main mode (plug-in selected), /program edit/ pad mixer/ keygroup,... even the keyboard mode too:

Lets add an option under the tools tab w/ a command + ____ hot key function that allows users to see the key notation on the piano roll.
It'll enhance the work flow for those familiar w/ or learning music theory who want to click in chords/notes. Also, it comes in handy when you wanna look test out multi note chords like Major 9th/11th/13ths etc. This would be awesome to have for those long commutes in the city when your away from your MAX49 (or what ever the users keyboard/midi controller choice is)

Essentially your extending your brand to a younger generation by allowing elder users to teach those under their wing.
It's great knowing what octave I'm in, but I feel like we can take things a step further to support those w/ an interest in teaching a little theory to their apprentices/students.

Please add this as an update.
lol i kid you not, if i hadn't of taught myself a lil theory early on & self motivated... (post-purchase), i would have sold my renaissance.

+1... I think they should get ride of keygroups all together & just have the ability to piano roll any and all events like NI Maschine does. I use both & i kinda miss dat when im om my Mpc. Also both software need to have ghost notes in piano roll option like Fl studio so when your on a different track you can see were the other sounds events are placed

  • GhostNotes: This is a much much needed must have feature!
I'm a hundred percent on board w/ that, because having that visual makes it easier period. Until than, copy, paste, run the volume all the way down so events are yellow and muted. You can leave them in place, or simply above the range your working. It's not the solution you want, but its how I get around it.

lol or, or, use a math notebook w/ the gridlines, and like do your thang, that way you can flip through your tracks effortlessly. I laugh but, sometimes it's engaging a different medium that will offer new perspectives.

  • KEYGROUP -
I don't see the point in getting rid of "keygroup"ing, essentially now you have 88 instances of a chosen sample, depending on the selected key range [C3 to G8 is great for claps etc]... but I will say this, it can be way better. However, its all in how you use it to.

In my personal opinion how the pads translate into the keyboard makes zero sense.
For example: it ruins the work flow, because it takes away from the dynamics of the movement. Its one less tool you don't have in your arsenal, that in all fairness you should have. In drum mode, A01 to H16 should translate key for key in drum mode.
    Octave range: C -2

    Go into drum mode:
D#/E flat = H 01 on the pads ( in drum mode, so there really is no way around it, it needs to be improved
    C = G14

    Go back to keygroup:
C = A 01 on the pads, & after that they all correspond accordingly... which is what you want. It's just disappoint that there is no simple solution using an octave range to spread out samples.... there's approx. 11 octaves, but I'm limited to 4 samples. I don't see them adding a drag and drop feature anytime soon.

It would be so bless, so blesss if they could improve "keygroup". Personally, I'm content /w key group. Working w. four samples at once, divided evenly between a key range of my choice.... that's plenty enough for me.

  • Hey Edward,

    Thanks for posting!

Another good idea here. I think this would certainly help users that want to dive deeply into extended chords (9ths, 11ths, 13ths) and generally brush up on their theory. To the Akai team this goes!

Please let me know if you have any questions.

When i said get rid of keygroups. I was not saying get rid of the ability of keygroups. For instance if any & all samples can be pitched, piano rolled, or note assign there would be no need to specify u need a sample in a keygroup. Like in Maschine or FL studio they dont have keygroups because any sample can do what a keygroup does automatically. There is no need to make a keygroup assign a sample to it. All u have to do is push piano roll & you are ready to go

Maschine does dat now without having keygroups
U can assign as many 127 samples (sound on each key) or keysplit & spread note ranges as u want
