Record a performance with MPC X standalone

With the MPC X in standalone, is it possible to do a live performance (track mute, clip launch, effect modulation) while recording the main out to an audio track?

I'd like to record a full song without programming everything in song mode, and without using an external gear for recording. Alternatively, if there is a way to record all the automation in one run to a song, then record it, it would work too.

Thanks

  • Hey Pierre,

    Thanks for posting!

If you are looking to record a performance, your best bet would be to use automation on tracks as you cannot access the MIDI functionality of the MPC while you are recording audio in Audio mode.

I would recommend building a song in Song mode and simply exporting it as an audio file. The automation in your tracks will be included in the songs.

There are some alternative methods of recording the MPC but these are more work than just creating an audio file. In Song mode, you could convert the song into a long sequence and use Resample function in Sampler mode to record the audio that the MPC is producing. This is like manually creating an audio file rather than exporting from song mode. I suppose you could also connect a cable from the MPC's output to its input and record the audio in either Audio mode or Sampler but again, this is more work than it is worth for the same result if you were to just export the song from Song mode.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
