Sample and input instrument tuner

For reference I'm using an MPC Live in standalone mode with the 2.2 firmware. My setup is typically having a set of (analogue) synths being MIDI controlled by the MPC fed into a mixer then back into the MPC. At times I am making pitch adjustments using unquantized dials meaning I often ended up tuning by ear.

In an attempt to simplify this process I have put an instrument tuner on a monitor channel of my mixer allowing me to route the specific sound into that bus for precise tuning. This works for me but requires me go to and from the MPC.

My suggestion is to add an "instrument tuner" to the MPC that can run live on an input (audio channel) or a sample. When successful on a sample (calculated pitch variance is low) it could also automatically set the root note (like the BPM calculation). This would allow for simple sampling and live playing of pitched instruments.

  • Hey Daniel,

    Thanks for posting!

I think the addition of a tuner on the audio input monitor would be a useful feature! Be sure to submit this as a feature request with the MPC 2.x Software's built-in feedback module. The feedback module is represented by a smiley icon at the lower right side of the software next to the browser icons. This information goes directly to the Akai team for consideration!
