Suggestions/advice for rack mounts or sound collection for electronic music production using MPC X

I am new to MPC and have an MPC X on backorder. I am wondering what are my best options for sounds; rack mounts? Etc. I am going to be doing a lot of electronic music and I am trying to work in standalone mode without a computer. What is the MPC X capable of using in standalone mode? I would like to be able to use Native Instruments Komplete somehow, will I have to run it through a computer to do so? Thanks so much to anyone who is kind enough to take the time to share some wisdom with me.

Yes you will need a computer to run plugins. They still need to work on or add USB Audio class-compliant it is only at the moment USB MIDI class-compliant.

If you are referring to Sound module racks like the Roland Integra-7 or Yamaha MOTIF-RACK XS then you should be good you would also be good if you go with a CV gate synth/keyboard.

You can also do analog recording into the MPCX with a Multi-timbre keyboard using the Audio tracks or set up MIDI via MIDI ports. There no MIDI System Exclusive Messages.

I have suggested they Akai create exclusive mobile plugin Module companion that will work in conjunction with the MPC-X/Live that you would plugin into the USB port that stores 3rd party and native plugins in stand alone mode. Will repost.

  • Hey iRS,

    Thanks for posting!

Seker has made some great suggestions here and you can control many other types of hardware with the MPC X via MIDI or as recommended, with CV. Essentially, you will be creating sequences on your MPC and sending out MIDI or control voltage/gate data to play your hardware synths (and of course audio from the MPC itself).

If you do not intend on using a computer, you will input the MPC's audio outputs (if you're using internal MPC samples) and your synthesizer's audio outputs to a mixer or a track recorder to capture the audio and build your songs.

I hope this helps you! Thanks again for the recommendations Seker.

  • Greetings Nick. Thanks for responding. Quick extra query; I just saw the announcement for the firmware update on the X and the Live. Will the MPC X's shipping on October 5th (from Musician's Friend) have the update already on board? Waiting for my X has been really painful. Can't wait to get to learning and mashing my art with what AKAI has to offer!!
