Turn off auto overdub mode

Hi when recording the MPC goes straight into overdub mode when looping back around again. Can I turn this off? I just want record a loop then jam over it and not over dub.

  • I think that would require alot of effort to rewrite their code to give it the option to work like that, and since most users don’t want it to work like that I think Akai wouldn’t spend time developing this feature. To accomplish what I believe you want can be done by using a foot pedal to trigger and engage the record button, so when you’re ready to record the final take just re-engage the record button using the foot pedal.

  • Once your done recording simply press the overdub button recording will stop while track continues to play.

  • Hey Jonny,

    Thanks for posting!

Overdub will be automatically enabled when a track originally set to Record has looped back on itself. As Radiz mentioned, you can press the Overdub button before performing over your recording to keep those events from being written into the sequencer. Per Jonespnice, if you have an MPC X, you can assign functions like Record or Overdub to a footswitch.

That being said, our development team welcomes your feedback so if there is a function or feature you would like to see added to the MPC workflow, be sure to submit a feature request with the MPC 2 Software's built-in feedback module. The feedback module is represented by a smiley icon at the lower right side of the software next to the browser icons. This information goes directly to the Akai team for consideration!

If you need an alternative method of submitting feedback, you may use the following links:

    Thanks for your feedback!
