VIP 3.1 and MPC 2.3 crashes and crash in Pro Tools 12

First of all I love my akai products, especially when they work. I have a newer ( PC with an i7 processor which I bought last month so ram/memory etc is not the issue. My work flow consist of me using Pro Tools 12 as a recording DAW and using MPC & VIP as two separate track instruments. With the Touch pads, and my Advance 49 being the key master to vst through VIP. Recently I updated both programs. Updating MPC to 2.3 and VIP 3.1.1, what a nightmare this has been for me. At first I thought it was my VIP software, due to me updating this last. I was asked to update this program when I opened as a plugin in the MPC 2.3 program, I did, and reset my cpu. The standalone seemed to update, however when I opened VIP 3.1.1 as a plugin in MPC 2.3 it ask me each time to update. Pressing later will close this screen in the DAW for me, but in VIP through the DAW and as a standalone I have been having issues where the plugin will not open for adjustments. It is either receive a blank screen where the sound may or may not play or the application freezes and crash. For the MPC 2.3 DAW/updated program I also either receive a blank screen where the sound may or may not play or the application freezes and crash when various vst's are loaded. Now back to Pro Tools, utilizing my work flow consisting of me using Pro Tools 12 as a recording DAW and using MPC & VIP as two separate track instruments, I also either a blank screen where the sound may or may not play. Ultimately if I manage to have each working application working in Pro Tools as instruments I always experience a unexpected crash. Please help and share if you are having this problem or fixes?

  • Hey N4ML,

    Thanks for posting!

Sorry you're having some trouble with the software! What operating system are you running on your computer? I see that you also tagged jBridge in your post - how are you using jBridge?

Have you started troubleshooting by completely uninstalling the software, deleting their respective plugins, and reinstalling?

Uninstalling MPC will not affect your MPC projects, it will only remove the software from your computer.

Make a backup of VIP before uninstalling so you can reload your settings - to do this, select File > Back Up. VIP will create the backup file which will be saved as a .bak file. To reapply the backup to VIP, select File > Restore Backup.

After you have removed the software, I would advise restarting your computer and downloading the latest versions of each software installer from your Akai Pro account.

Try that and let me know how it goes!

  • VIP is not the most stable program in my experience. I still get crashes after a lot of trying to optimize it through settings and reinstallations, etc. The features (wide compatibility with plug-ins, user customization of mappings, good hardware in the Advance) still make it a good choice over the competition imo, (I haven't tried the new Nektar option yet) but the stability is an issue.

I haven't reinstalled the software in several months and might try that again at some point again. I'm not looking forward to rescanning all my plug-ins again, etc., but reinstalling in the default program path did help a bit when I last tried that. (at least as far as recognizing plug-ins and patches is concerned, and maybe some other things that I'm forgetting now) For the next software update, though, I hope to see stability improvements as a main focus.

The recent MPC updates look great and as a prospective MPC Live buyer it's looking more and more tempting, but now that many of the user requests for MPC have been taken care of, maybe we can see another VIP/Advance update soon?
