Why not improving Mpc software and standalone?

Just a humble question.
Given that we bought an Mpc that's been advertised as an hybrid device with its own software and OS, why don't you just improve what it is advertised?
I mean, we bought Mpc for that and it's not that cheap.
With 2.7, it seems like I have to buy a 3rd party daw to take advantage of it.
I find this choice a bit bizarre.
I would love to see improvements in a hybrid point of view, which means improvements in Mpc standalone and Mpc software.
Thanks.

  • I would like to see a few changes as well, but Ableton does seem massively popular so I'm assuming they are chasing that market.

Overall, I'm very happy with my LIVE, though, so I'm not sweating it tooooooo much.

  • Yeah I also love my Mpc in standalone.
It's just bizarre that it took 6 months of efforts for something few people were asking for.
Did Akai surrender with its own software?

  • Akai did the same thing with the Force. Rather than updating it to control MPC software, they have it controlling Ableton. I use MPC and Force software but not Ableton, so the updates are basically useless.

I also wonder why I can't update my Mac to the latest system software and not be able to use my controller (Touch) or MPC software anymore. I already went through this with the last update, which I did, and wasn't able to use MPC for about 5 months

I did get into Maschine at the time and now use it much more. Thanks Akai. The longer it takes to get the MPC software and controller updated to run on Catalina, the more time I have to produce music on Maschine.

Indeed: the MPC Live is designed and promoted primarily as a standalone device, right?
Or at least having the possibility to function as 'the center of your production setup'.
I guess a lot of people bought this specific instrument because they didn't want to use a separate computer, no?
All the extra possibilities are nice, but AKAI, please treat and update it in line with the way you designed, promoted and sold it to your customers...

I guess this has been stated elsewhere, but the fundamental platform the MPC X, Live and Force are built on is the same. They run the same OS+Software (from what appears to be a common codebase). I think a lot of people buying force were interested in it as a multi function device. Sure the primary selling point is standalone functionality, but if it can also function to an APC, then that it's like killing two birds with one stone for Ableton users.

There was a clear demand for this and it was mentioned as an upcoming feature when force was released. I'd love to see more standalone mode features, but I guess the same team works on Force and MPC. They have to target bringing features to the market for one or both devices. With the common codebase it seems rather pointless to release features for one and not the other except for marketing reasons (e.g. standalone mode hybrid synth). In the end though, adding a new feature to both, albeit not so useful to one of the platforms, seems like the best way to go. Hopefully the next release will be something more commonly requested, and MPC targeted.

    • People really need to learn exactly what JJOS is and isnt. JJ worked for Akai. JJ got fired and STOLE the MPC1000/2500 OS. JJOS isn't some magic software that was written from the ground up by "JJ". He just modded the source code that was already in place. Aint gonna happen with the Live or X.
    • Well yeah, I can imagine a 4gb Mpc with third party synths and fx, the same as Air did when they gave us their great bundle and synths.
That would be dope, to have the chance to buy 3rd party plugins for standalone.
      Just a dream maybe?
      Or maybe not?

  • Hey Fabrizio,

    Thanks for posting!

This is a difficult question to answer as I am not a part of the development team. What I can tell you, is that the community has been very vocal about implementing Ableton control, specifically for the Force. As Daniel mentioned above, the MPC and Force OS are practically the same, so integrations for one are usually implemented in the other.

If you are not an Ableton user, I can understand that the update doesn't necessarily provide much use to you. That said, this update implemented some large advances in terms of what the unit is capable of doing. The team is continuing to build on that and I'm sure that we will see some exciting new features in the MPC hardware and software in the coming year.

Let me know if you have any questions.
