Will MPK 88 work with Ipad Air 2?

Hi all,

I own an MPK 88 and was thinking to buy an Ipad 2 Air. Anybody could confirm if this setup will work ? The MPK 88 would be powered directly with the charger.

Thanks

    Hi Alex,

    Thanks for posting!

The MPK 88 is not officially supported for iOS use, but it can work in some scenarios. Check out our guide on connecting class-compliant USB/MIDI devices to an iOS device:

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions!

Unfortunately I already went through the link before your comment but somehow I am looking for a clear statement from Akai( or any other user experience) than can confirm if MPK88 can work with Ipad Air 2 ( the web site is full of disclaimers).

Considering that Apple tablets are the most used for soft sitnt it shouldnt be too complicated for Akai to check exact compatibilities and under which setup.

Please let me know if this can be checked.

    All the best

      Hi Alex,

I don't think i would agree that MOST ipads are used for music production these days, but it's certainly a very popular use.

Keep in mind, that the iPad was still a young concept when the MPK88 was introduced and the MPK88 was not built with that function yet in mind. For that reason, the MPK88 is not officially supported for use with iOS. All official compatibility requirements, even for iOS, would be posted here.

Because of the ever-changing landscape for ipads and iOS that is as far as I can guarantee. But of course, as you know, historically class-compliant devices have been found to work just fine with iOS and an apple-certified Camera Connection Kit.

While the MPK88 will not continue to be tested with new iOS and iPad releases, it has been found to work with previous iOS and ipad versions, as long as power is supplied by a powered USB hub. This is specified in the article linked to above.

Maybe another user can step in at this point and let you know if they've been able to test it out with a later release.

      I hope this clarifies!
