Alesis Command songs 61-120? How to use them.

The Alesis Command module claims 120 songs. 1-60 are actual songs. 61-120 appear to be instrument samples/voices. How do you use these additional sounds? There is no info how to use them in the user manual.

There used to be a link that was a list of all included songs, but that link no longer works.

  • Hi Rick,

    Thanks for posting.

Yes, your additional instrument samples and voices can be used with your Command Kit, and will need to be assigned to a pad or pads in order to be used.

Follow these steps below to learn how to do this:

    1. Press Kit to enter the Kit Selection page if you aren't already viewing it.
    2. Press Menu to enter the Kit menu.
    3. Use the Down and up buttons to select Voice, and then press Enter.
    4. Hit the pad whose voice you want to edit. The pad's name will appear at the top of the display. Alternatively, you may also use the dial or Left (<) and Right (>) buttons.
    5. The display will show the pad's current voice and parameters. On this page, use the Down and Up buttons to select the Voice Name. Select the voice you'd like to assign to the pad, and repeat as necessary for all other pads.
    6. When finished, press Save. Rename Kit will appear at the top of the display. If you'd like to rename the kit, turn the dial to change the currently selected character, or use the Left and Right buttons to move to the next or previous character.
    7. After entering the name of the new kit, press Down to select Save. The desired user kit and Save? will appear on the display.
    8. Use the dial or Left and Right buttons to select a user kit.
    9. To confirm your choice, press Enter. Save OK! will appear briefly on the display to confirm the kit was saved.

If you wish to save your kit to a USB flash drive, follow these steps:

    1. Press Kit to enter the Kit Selection page if you aren't already viewing it.
    2. Use the dial or Left and Right buttons to select the kit you want to save. To switch between preset kits (001-050) and user kits (051-070), press Kit.
    3. Press Menu to enter the Kit Menu.
    4. Use the Down and Up buttons to select USB Memory, and then press Enter.
    5. Use the Down and Up buttons to select Kit Save, and then press Enter.
    6. Use the Down and Up buttons to select a kit number (00-99). A number with no name next to it will indicate an empty kit. A number with a name next to it will indicate a saved kit.
    7. To save the kit to the selected number, press Enter. If the number already has a kit saved to it, "Data will be overwritten! Enter or Exit?" will appear on the display. Press Enter to overwrite the kit or Exit to return to the list of kits. To cancel, press Exit.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • Bill, it appears that you've misunderstood Rick's question.

He is asking about the song function. In his second sentence he mistakenly said sample/voice. I have a similar issue. Songs 1-70 play continuously when you press the song "start" button once. For songs 71-120, only the first note of the song plays when pressing the "start" button.

I contacted Alesis, and I uploaded a video in a previous post to demonstrate this behavior. I was told the unit was defective on January 4 and to replace it under warranty. I just received a replacement unit yesterday (after paying over $40 for a warranty repair), and it does exactly the same thing as the previous Command module. I recorded new video and I can upload to demonstrate (again).

If the unit is operating as it should, then why was I told it was defective and told to replace it at a cost to me of over $40 AND be without a working drum kit for 3 months? How are these songs supposed to be used if they are working correctly?

rhys T, I checked out the Medeli manual (sad how the Alesis manual is virtually non-existent and pretty much totally useless) and I can't understand what it means that songs 71-80 are "HIT" and songs 81-120 are "TAP". Are they triggered by specific pads if hit while the "song" is activated? I tried hitting all the pads and it seemed to have no effect on any of the songs from 71-120.

  • I know this is an old thread, however, I had the same question about ''songs'' 70 and above, they arent songs per say, they are basically like samples or short drum loops that you can trigger, anyway, how you use them, when you are editing the kit voice, scroll all the way down till you see ''pad song'' here using the wheel you can assign any one of the samples or any of the actual songs to trigger to a pad or rim, the manual isnt clear on this and i have seen this question in other threads, and some of the kits (reggae) have a beat triggered by the crash cymbal by default, that can be turned off in the pad song menu.
