I’m frustrated

Alesis Crimson II Kick Pad has lost sensitivity.

Hi,

I purchased an Alesis Crimson II drum set back in January. I recently noticed that the bass drum isn't registering light hits anymore. I am using the rubber side of the beater. I have adjusted the sensitivity and nothing. It only picks up hard hits and not the lighter feather hits. I am using a Tama Iron Cobra 200 pedal. Is the beater worn down. Is it the module? I am not digging this kit right now. It has been one problem after another!

  • Hi Michael,

Thanks for posting. Sorry you're having issues with your Crimson II Kit.

It sounds like you may need to adjust your threshold and/or retrigger settings. Follow these steps below:

Threshold The Threshold setting is similar to Sensitivity in that if it is set to a low value, a very light hit will trigger a sound.  However, the difference is this: If the Threshold setting is increased, there will be absolutely no sound until the pad is hit with a certain amount of force.  This allows for accidental unintentional hits to automatically be eliminated in real-time.

To adjust this setting, follow these steps:

    1. From the main screen, press the EXT TRIG button.
    2. Use the CURSOR buttons to highlight the Input field.
Once the Input field is highlighted, use the VALUE/TEMPO dial to choose the trigger you want to adjust.
(ie. If you would like to adjust the main head area of the snare drum, choose SnrHd. If you want to adjust the snare drum rim area, choose SnrRim, etc.)
    3. Press F2 (TRIG).
    4. Use the CURSOR buttons to highlight the Threshold field.
    5. Use the VALUE/TEMPO dial to increase or decrease the Threshold setting of the affected trigger.
    6. Press the DRUM KIT button to return to the main screen.

ReTrigger The ReTrigger setting focuses on how quickly one strike comes after another, rather than how much force a pad is being hit with.  By adjusting the ReTrigger setting higher, any accidental secondary hits that come immediately after the first intentional hit, will be eliminated.  The lower the setting, the more likely the second hit will be heard.

To adjust this setting, follow these steps:

    1. From the main screen, press the EXT TRIG button
    4. Use the CURSOR buttons to highlight the ReTrigger field.
    5. Use the VALUE/TEMPO dial to increase or decrease the ReTrigger setting of the affected trigger.
    6. Press the DRUM KIT button to return to the main screen.

Let me know how this goes.

    Hi Bill,

Thank you for the reply/ suggestions. When I go into trigger settings, it will not allow me to adjust the settings of the head or rim. There are two "--" for both of those settings and nothing makes them change in value. It seems to be the bass pad this is an issue with. I am wondering if I should try a factory reset.

  • Yes, I would also suggest trying a factory reset if you haven't done so already. Follow these steps below:

    1. Press Kit to enter the Kit Selection page (if you are not already viewing it).
    2. Press Menu to enter the Kit Menu.
    3. Use the Down and Up buttons to select Factory Reset, and then press Enter.
    4. Use the Down and Up buttons to select which settings you want to return to the defaults.
    5. Kit (only the user kits)
    6. Song (only the user songs)
    7. Voice (only the user voices)
    8. Trigger Settings (all trigger settings)
    9. All (all of the above).
    10. When All data will be lost! Enter or Exit? appears in the display, press Enter to continue or Exit to cancel.
    11. Wait a minute while the module restores its default settings. After Reset OK! appears on the display, the default settings are restored.
    12. Press Exit to return to the previous page

  • I’m depressed
    Hello Bill,

I have tried all these solutions (FYI I can read the manual) and nothing worked. To make matters even worse the kick pad is no longer responding to any hits as of today. I bought this set in January, and for it to fall apart this fast is a joke considering that it is not a beginner kit. My guess is the pick up inside is a piece of garbage and that has been the problem the whole time. At this point I am truly at a lost. I have tried to pick up drumming again after 18 years as a way of helping me battle my depression and anxiety. This e-kit had done the opposite of helping me. I should have stuck to acoustic or maybe tried a more reliable brand. I am open to any other fixes, but I guess I'm stuck buying a new kick pad for what....$100+ if I want a chance of playing again. I am very disappointed in the Alesis Corporation and I certainly will not be recommending your product to any of my fellow musician friends here and abroad.
