I’m Dissapointed

Alesis DM6 USB hi hat closed not loud enough and sometimes not registering

Hi,
My new Alesis DM6 has a problem with the hi hat, when open its fine but when closed it has to be hit quite hard, if not sometimes it doesn't register and even when it does it is really low volume compared to the rest of the kit, so much so I can hear the stick hitting the rubber instead of the hi hat. I have adjusted the individual volumes so the hi hat is at maximum and the rest of the kit is lower. I am gonna try install the latest firmware as I haven't done that, hoping that may sort the problem. Hope someone can help.

  • Hello Adrian,

Thanks for the post. I'd like to help! I recommend using your XP or Windows 7 computer to perform the update. This update is quite old at this point and it was originally created for the Windows 7 desktop user. To be safe, use an older computer with an older operating system. Make sure that you only have the DM6 module connected to your computer via USB during this update process. Having multiple USB devices connected at the same could interfere with your update. Also, try different USB ports and a different USB cord too.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled dm6 firmware not uploading to module.

Trying to update the firmware in my new dm6 to try fix a problem with my hi hat and the firmware wont upload to the module, losing my patience fast with this, think it will be going back to the shop for a refund

    • Hi Chris, thanks for the help. My laptop is using windows 7, I didn't have any other usb devices plugged in at the time, I did try the cable in both of the two usb slots on my laptop, I bought a brand new cable. I downloaded the firmware bundle from the Alesis website and extracted the files to my desktop, after clicking on the file that is the actual updating program I go through all the little windows where is says click next, on the last window I noticed it had a little box that was ticked to open the program straight away so when I clicked next and tried to start the program it came up with an error message and an error code that I can't remember but will try again and write it down for you if you want. I followed the instructions that came with the download and opened the update program from the windows start menu, I did notice the midi in and midi out drop down boxes said Alesis dm6 instead of edrum, don't know if that made a difference, also the midi out had another option of "windows wave" something or other (which after a few attempts I did try and got to 3% and stopped). The last box I browsed for the downloaded files and selected the bin file, after clicking on update the percentage bar never left 0% and I left it a good 5 minutes. After closing the program and trying to start it again it wouldn't let me as it said it was still running. I had to restart my laptop and try again which did same thing. I uninstalled and download again and tried it all again, this I did a few times after updating windows 7, trying a different usb port, I tried the different midi patterns on the module (p--n and ---n?), I tried factory resetting the module and trying it all again and no joy, any help would be greatly appreciated.
