I’m frustrated

Alesis Drumset DM lite hithat has too long latency at opening

I've bought a "ALESIS DM LITE DRUM KIT".
Everything works fine exept of the hihat-function.

There is a delay of reaction opening the hihat, what disturbes the playing rhythm...

From the german service I received another (used) hihat-pedal, which behaves the same. Is there a possibility to calibrate the hihat-function...?

I opened the pedal and found that there is a rubber part rolling over two metal stripes which touch each other sligtly (at hitting the pedal).
This changes the resistance of the stripes (open approx. 72 kOhm). Parallel to the stripes there is also a resistor with approx. 360 kOhm. At pressing the pedal completely down the resistance of the circuit is 0 Ohm.

In my opinion this construction is not suitable for driving the hihat, as the two stripes at opening the pedal need a too long time to separate completely and getting the normal resistance...

So closing the hihat works according to the velocity of the pressing foot, but opening is determined by the mechanism.
This leads also to malfunction of the "splash" (fast kick on the pedal), which does not work at in most cases.

Has anybody an idea what to do... tinkering whith the resistors... a different pedal (which one?) with different mechanism... a possibility to calibrate the control unit... change the construction ???

  • Hello,

Thanks for posting. Sorry you're having issues with your DM Lite.

This sounds like a potential hardware issue with your module. Warranty and non-warranty claims are not handled here on the forum, but I can point you in the right direction! Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

    • Submit a Warranty or Service inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the Alesis Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu.

    or

    • For quicker support, call your nearest Support Office or International Distributor.

Make sure to reference or link this thread to help out the support team.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • I'm already in contact with the local support office.
They want to send me a new pedal, but I'm afraid it won't help if it is the same pedal I already have... I'm going to contact them again with the link to this forum thread...
