Alesis Nitro hi-hat controller pedal issue

I tried Nitro kit and I noticed I have to press the hi-hat pedal controller a bit harder to get closed sound (otherwise it'll sound half or full open sound). Others experience the same? And the hi-hat controller pedal has no easy adjustment with drum-key as seen here:

Do i get a bad or old unit of Nitro kit?

  • Hi Mik,

Thanks for posting. Have you tried adjusting your sensitivity or threshold settings? Your sensitivity settings will control how responsive a pad is when you hit it. The higher the value, the less forcefully you need to play to generate a loud hit. Your threshold will control how forcefully you have to hit the pad to generate a sound. The higher the value, the harder you have to hit it. To adjust these settings:

    1. Hit the pad whose settings you want to adjust, or press its corresponding Pad Select button.
    2. Press Utility, then press Page/Select until the desired setting appears in the display. Sensitivity will be displayed as SEN; Threshold will be displayed as THR.
    3. Use the < and > buttons to adjust the value.
    4. To save the settings, press Save.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

  • Hi support,
i did set the SEN as highest (the most sensitive). but i think the issue is not on the sensor's sensitivity. I think it's the hardware, the pedal mechanism is not hitting the switch deep enough. i have to press a bit deeper / harder every time. Is there a way i can get a replacement pedal? thanks

  • I have a slightly different problem.
My pedal is different as you can see by the photo. I would like the pedal to come up higher but it is not adjustable.
There isn't enough movement at the top end so the pedal hits the top & makes a loud clunking sound making the for a jerky control.

  • I have the same problem as Mik on my Nitro kit..I have to press the hi hat pedal really hard to keep it closed...and even slight release of pressure from my foot and it becomes open....anyway yo fix this?

I am a beginner so not really using the hi hat control much except to press it and keep it closed...is there a way to keep it permanently closed?

  • I’m OVERJOYED
Yea I wasn't that impressed with the hi hat situation which is why I am investigating on purchasing a hi hat that has 2 cymbals that open and close the hats..DO YOU AGRESS?..DAMN RIGHT

  • I’m frustrated
Did this ever get resolved. I have the same issue with new Surge Kit. The suggested replies above are practical at all, if I want to play a few bars of closed hat and them open the hat changing the voice not really an option.

Like the original poster and Ambreesh .I have to press the hi hat pedal really hard to keep it closed...and even slight release of pressure from my foot and it becomes open..

  • i don't have the issue of keeping it closed but there are definitely some short comings with the Hi Hat. You cannot make the crash sound that you would on an acoustic hi hat system unless you open and close on the pedal with a quick bouncing motion that is very unnatural. Not sure if one of the more expensive Alesis kits has a better Hi Hat system; i would be interesting in upgrading if so.
